One of our 3rd party smart bulbs has gotten disappeared in the Amazon Alexa update, and the quest to just get the system to pair with it again is a quest into the underworld labyrinth of device app screens that plays like a substantially more annoying Douglas Adams bit.
Not sure how I feel about this age of home automation. For the minor convenience of having lights turn on twenty minutes before sunset (or whenever), whenever the slightest hiccup happens - power outage, accidental light switch flick, software update, etc. - it's always such an inverted labor pyramid of me spending minutes to hours getting it all back working to meet our very basic needs.
I guess giving it up now would freak out our cats and their love of routine, who recognize the cadence of me saying "Alexa, goodnight" as the signal that we're all heading upstairs.
