As a generality - at what point does someone pursue defamation? Look at the body of work and the characters JB has created. How does that accusation make sense?

I do like how one Youtuber put it:

 QUOTE:
Who is this book for? Well, I would say it's for John Byrne. It was something he was doing more or less for himself. But if you're a fan of that X-Men era, or like me consider that to be the cream of the crop of X-Men stories, then this picks off right where they leave off and they fit right in.

Pretty fair assessment.

What a joy it is to read this book. It's a whole new
experience from the original release.

Classy to dedicate the book to Len Wein and Dave Cockrum -
"pathfinders" indeed.

And I really appreciate that Chris Ryall's contrinbution is
mentioned in the forward and is also included in the press
articles. My favorite era of JB's work is the IDW years -
we got to see JB as a seasoned storyteller do some amazing
work in which he stretched past his already considerable
legacy. Star Trek, Next Men, Jurassic Park, Doomsday 1.0,
Angel - all amazing. And STAR TREK: NEW VISIONS was
groundbreaking.

Great to see Chris acknowledged - JB fans owe him a debt of
gratiutde for having such good taste!
