I lived so many years in Manhattan that I got used to not driving or even needing to be driven. For the past 20 years I've lived on Long Island, but in a town that lets me treat it like the city, i.e., I can walk to just about anything I want or need to, including the train station and even, if I wanted to stretch my legs, an NYC subway line.

That "trapped" feeling is just awful.

JB, if you have AAA, they can bring a car battery to you
and install it. They do it as part of their roadside
assistance service.

I have something similar to this:

I bought it in a Black Friday sale and in a huge bit of coincidence, my car battery ended up not starting the same day my package arrived (my first battery problems in several years)!  Unfortunately, I was not home when my battery problems happened.  I had to get a ride share home and then back to where my car was the next day with the starter but it worked well.  I'm not mechanically minded at all but it was easy to use.  Just connect the two cables to the battery and the car started almost immediately.  (After starting, it's best to drive the car half an hour or so before shutting off the engine so the battery can get fully charged again).

Word from the body shop: they have the bumper off. Damage as expected. Waiting for pictures from a salvage yard to see if the parts they have are really useable.
