I paid a pretty penny for the Jag, but over thirty years it has unavoidably dropped in market value. Presently the make and model lists for about 5% of what it originally cost me. (Before the accident, I could probably have asked more, if I had decided to sell it, due to its like-new condition and low mileage.)

Working from home, and with the Jag mostly my “special occasions” car, over the three decades I’ve owned it I have racked up less than 50,000 miles!

Sorry to hear about the car troubles. I can relate. Both the wife's and my car recently took a dump at the same time. Not fun. I am glad to know you weren't hurt in the accident.

For a moment I wondered "Property Tax on cars? Have I been dodging a tax all this time?" But just looked and saw that it's a Connecticut thing - NY and NJ don't collect property tax on vehicles.

When I moved to CT in 1985 there was no sales tax. Then they took the tolls off Interstate-95, and the next thing we knew….

Incidentally, I’ve been driving for 30 years - since I was 16! - and I was never involved in so much as a fender bender until I bought my Tesla in 2018, at which point I was struck no fewer than three times in the span of two years. Twice rear-ended, and once my driver-side door got crushed by an illegally modded e-bike after my wife had left it slightly ajar and the biker clipped it with his foot rest.
