One of the smartest things I ever did, whilst still back in Calgary, was to get my Marvel and DC back issues bound in hardcover. Destroys their "value" as collectors items, but makes them ideal for reference and even casual reading.

(This process is called "perfect binding". After I moved to Connecticut I was looking to get some work bound, and seeking out a print shop that did such things I asked the young woman [teenager] behind the counter if they did perfect binding. "Well, it's pretty good," she said,)

How many issues would you typically get in a volume, JB?

The binder I used limited the number to 10.

I've gotten some of my comics bound in hardcover. Mostly comics that as of yet have resisted being done by Marvel and then some Valiant comics from the beginning of their run. I like having them on my shelves with all the other trades I own. I have more I'd like to get the same treatment for but my wallet keeps finding other priorities ...

It's funny, Trevor, there were two series that I was in the process of collecting and organzing and had a friend doing designs in order to get them bound and no sooner did I get all the work done that DC/Marvel offered full omnibuses of those exact collections.

(They were the Chris Sprouse/Stuart Immonen era of Legionnaires and the Steve Epting era of Avengers.)
