Edited to add: Doh! I've just re-read JB's piece from Man of Steel 1 where he says that he never got to see The Haunted Lighthouse at the time but was able to watch the following week. That means Treasures of the Incas would have been his first episode on the 3rd of May.
Looking on the Television and Radio Database, ATV Midlands showed The Haunted Lighthouse at 7:05pm on Thursday 26th April 1956. Not many viewers would have seen the episode as the midlands was one of only two ITV regions broadcasting at the time. The only Superman available to viewers in London, the other region operating then, were the Fleisher cartoons in a children's slot. Associated-Rediffusion, the London weekday broadcaster, started showing Adventures of Superman in 1957 with The Haunted Lighthouse being shown on April 24th that year.
On that day in 1956, other programmes available to the young JB included:
3:45 - BBC - Watch with Mother - Rag, Tag and Bobtail.
5pm - BBC - Children's Television including treats such as Cy Grant singing folk songs from America and the West Indies, Children's International Newsreel, Sketch Club and films about the Puss Moth and the Swallowtail!
5pm - ITV - Flickwicz which included Small Time (with Snoozy the Sea-lion) and an episode of Hopalong Cassidy. Funnily enough, it was an episode called Don't Believe in Ghosts and featured a ghostly rancher.
There was a break from 6-7pm which was to allow parents to get their young children to bed. At 7pm there was five-minute news bulletin followed by Superman, with news and sports news on the BBC.
At 7:30 there was a choice of a Commonwealth Newsreel on the BBC or Liberace on ITV! (London ITV viewers got Science-Fiction Theatre instead).
