I see a John Byrne video clip in there.

Never heard the reason for “writing for the trade” as being a shift to the
bookstore format where they could return unsold inventory. That was new
info for me.

That is a good summary of the nineties collapse.

Side note: I know a guy, an acquaintance from high school, who still owns longboxes full of nineties "investment" comics, Death of Superman and McFarlane Spider-Man and so forth. He's smart enough to know that they're basically worthless, but I also believe he'll never get rid of them, because to get rid of them would be to admit that he got fleeced thirty years ago.

I seem to recall that not long after the Speculator Boom collapsed, Marvel (run by Bill Jemas at the time) was intentionally under-printing certain titles in order to "give the fans a rare collectible." In other words, a desperate (and ultimately futile) attempt to lure back the very speculators that had left the market in shambles. All the damage speculation had done at that point and they actually wanted it back!

Yes, I have heard high placed people say in so many words that it would be GOOD to get the speculators back.
