I don’t believe the original question was about inter company crossovers though

“JB, what was your favorite Marvel/DC crossover participation?”

So, I did a really bad job of phrasing the question - two strokes will do that!

I should have specified a bit more, for the inter-title crossovers like "Milllennium", or "Acts of Vengeance", or "Secret Wars" that impacted the month to month titles you were working on at the time- did you have a favorite experience?

For the record, I would have a hard time choosing between Batman/Captain America versus Galactus/Darkseid as my favorite actual company crossover.

I think you fooled us all with that one, Jason!

To make an attempt at addressing the actual question, then, I didn’t enjoy working on ANY of the company wide crossovers. All were forced upon us, with no consideration of the impact on what we already had plotted.

I'm reading a lot of Epic Collections these days and it always gets annoying when we get to some crossover issue, interrupting the main storyline.  And then, of course, if you read the other chapters, the quality varies wildly depending on the creative team.

I sort of like the idea of company-wide crossovers restricted to the annuals, at least in theory.

Of all the crossovers we slogged through back in the day, only Acts of Vengeance still makes me smile. That was a neat concept. You got to see a lot of new villains in different books, and you could enjoy them without worrying about the bigger story.

Would She-Hulk have ended up on the FF without SECRET WARS?

Ah, the annual 'Crossover With 8 Books You Don't Read' events!

To dump the Thing from the Fantastic Four for several years was a comicbook crime against readers, especially young ones in their prime years of reading. What a stupid loss.

Still, forced into replacing the Thing, you certainly made the best of it, JB. I don't think hardly anybody at the time could've handled it more smoothly or told better stories to integrate She-Hulk into the team.

The biggest problem with Ben having his own book, either a teamup or solo, was that any good Thing story was almost by definition a good FF story. Marooning him on another planet at least gave me the room to come up with some tales that were more uniquely his.

And, of course, adding She-Huk to the FF wasn’t exactly painful!
