[Obama] represents an end to the fear-mongering, racially divisive politics of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

There was a shot last night of a tearful Jesse Jackson and I confess I was a little cynical about it, going so far as to say, "THERE'S some real sincerity..."

If nothing else, hopefully this can be a time to heal the racial divide in America.

Did my ears fail me or did I hear boos for Palin?

Yeah, I thought I heard that too.

We'll always wonder how things would have turned out had he chosen someone different. She became too much the story, at McCain's expense. Mitt Romney, it turns out, wouldn't have helped in the short run of the convention, but might have in the weeks following.

I had the exact same thought, Tom.

Yes, me too. I told my wife he ways crying because he thought it should have been him. Talk about a ruined legacy.

Edit to add quote for context.

" Under them, the congressional Democrats were much more centrist."

The Democrats under Clinton were the same morons who deregulated the banking industry, which ultimately led to the mess we are currently in. And then there's NAFTA, which helped throw away a lot of jobs and forced millions of rural Mexicans into our borders. Those guys were ( and maybe still are ) faux Republicans. For that reason, I've never supported or voted for any Clinton.

I have to give props to some of the republican members on this board with their gracious attitude about Obama winning, well played sirs!

Oh, come on. I think you see that at every concession speech, it's nothing new. Certainly there were boos when Kerry conceded in 2004. When you have a group of people there who have given there all for a candidate, and they lose, some will always express sour grapes.

Exactly.  And McCain did a good job of quelling those boos.  Did my ears fail me or did I hear boos for Palin?

*********

Agreed. While I personally didn't like the boos, there will always be some ungracious malcontents on any losing side. McCain showed tremendous class last night - he made me proud to have supported him.

And Obama was a gracious winner. He struck exactly right the humble, conciliatory tone to my ears. Given his margin of victory, I'm sure some of his supporters wanted to see a bit more swagger, but I thought he handled it just right.

It wasn't like this in every race. Here in North Carolina's U.S. Senate race, defeated incumbent Elizabeth Dole pretty much said, "I can't believe you people were dumb enough to pick her over me," while newly elected Senator Kay Hagan basically said, "Ding, dong, the witch is dead."

"But, seriously, how long before we start hearing from the same malcontents who, after Vanessa Williams won her short-lived crown, grumbled "not black enough"?"

DAG had a really funny bit about that in the second episode of his "Chocolate News" on Comedy Central. In fact he's had a lot of good election bits on that show.

There's footage of Jesse Jackson hysterically smearing himself with the blood of MLK immediately after the assasination. So the guy breaking down over Obama's victory is not out of character.

I had a hard time with Jesse too, but I feel they were real tears, hell I cried during the whole speech, what a great day in America, I honestly did not allow myself to feel that Obama was going to win because I thought racial hatred would rear it's ugly head. But man, some red states like Indiana opened their minds and voted for the ideals this country was based on, that all men are equal.

Edited to add: I too thought McCain did a great job quieting down the boo's, but if you get a chance to rewatch it watch Palin's face when they do, she smiled.
