After several years of seeing things like "F-Bush" or "Kill Bush", it seems now that this type of talk is no longer allowed. No, I'm not advocating what the idiots wrote on the wall, but find it interesting that now it's not OK to not like the President-elect.

I didn't get the impression that that kind of thing was being tolerated when
it was directed at Bush, either, though...

Let's be fair and look at this in context. Bush won in 2000 after a contentious battle following the election. Many thought, and still think, that the Republicans stole that election. It's no surprise that there was incredible rancor after he was declared the winner. In 2004, the "war" in Iraq was unpopular and Democrats were offended by the attacks orchestrated by Rove to undermine Kerry. Again, no surprise that a disenfranchised Democratic party would be unhappy with a man they felt had mishandled the office of President. In short, Bush came into the White House under strained conditions to say the least and continued his policy of hatred and bullying long past the 2004 elections. Is it really so shocking under that atmosphere that people reacted in the way that they did and yet in this atmosphere of change or perceived change that people don't want to tolerate that sort of thing?

So Matt, are you saying that it's only OK to say bad things about someone if you feel they've done wrong things?

"We just elected a guy who doesn't know how many states are in his own country"
I remember reading that when it first came out and it was pretty clear from the context that he'd been talking about all the US states, territories and foreign states the campaign had been through. His "mistake" wasn't not knowing the US has 50 states, but accidentally forgetting to refer to territories etc as well as states. The campaign had been to more than 50 distinct "states or territories".
I mean, you'd have to be pretty dense not to get that it was a simple slip of the tongue. It makes for a funny joke on talk-shows, but it hardly reaches Sarah Palin levels.

For me, and it is just MY opinion, Sarah Palin is a female version of a real life Homer Simpson.

I'm against hate speech of any kind, Jeff. I'd feel the same way if I heard, saw, or read about anyone writing what they did about Obama against Bush. That said, it was the tone in your post that I was really responding to. Your tone assumes that Obama is "off-limits" as a President-Elect whereas Bush was not. I merely attempted to put that into context considering the 2000 and 2004 elections. It's not apples-to-apples at all.

Why would he be campaigning in foreign states? Apart from Puerto Rico I doubt he set foot in any of the territories. He made a mistake. Perhaps just a slip of the tongue or maybe he was tired. There's no reason to make up stuff to cover for him.
