Agreed. Well-said, Jeff (and you as well, Mike).

What, all of the Vietnamese killed don't count when voting for McCain? A second term for Bush was okay even though thousands of innocent Iraqi children and women lived in neighborhoods bombed by military forces? Unless I'm mistaken, abortion has remained legal throughout many Republican presidents' terms.

Mike,
I agree that Obama's message was more one of "Daddy is coming to take care of you." suggesting McCain was more of a Daddy figure was my lame, LAME, attempt at a joke.

Also, I heard on the radio this morning that the ballots in the trunk of the car is reportedly a myth. So now I feel stupid for bringing that one up! :-|

Hardly. I just think it reflects very badly on the quality of the candidates when Catholic voters get to choose between a candidate who supports an unjust war in Iraq and a candidate who supports the unjust treatment of babies as property.
There hasn't been a presidential election yet in which I had zero regrets about the candidate I chose.

In regards to the Iraq war compared to abortion, these are not equivalences. Iraq never had to happen. It was conceived in the minds of a few bloody-minded fools and foisted on the rest of the world. Abortion on the other hand, has been happening in this country for a very long time, a result of myriad personal, social and economic circumstances with no one single root. The choice is either to control it so the practice does not become egregious, or criminalize it and drive it underground, where it will certainly take on its most tragic, exploitive forms.

There's always going to be a degree of regret. I wish Obama had as much of a desire to see gay rights advance as I do, and I'm still pissed about his and Biden's vote on the bankruptcy changes. What are ya gonna do? Vote, hope for the best, prepare for disappointment, and vote again - perhaps against the very people you voted for. It beats not voting,

Oh, yeah, that's the same thing as trying to decide what's more in line with Catholicism - abortion or war.

That's a very odd thing to say. Is it no longer enough that Christian values in general are promoted above all others by any politician who hopes to get elected? Is it necessary that Catholic values specifically must be addressed? For example, does a political candidate have to come out against birth control in order to carry the "Catholic vote"?

Let's not forget the days when the Pope was a warlord, laying siege and putting upstart Italian city-states to the sword. Which was only like, four-hundred, five hundred years ago.
