The Clintons' baggage (not all of it their fault) makes using them very costly.  I hope they are worth it.

A little annoyed at all the Clintonistas returning myself, but...

Didn't Carter stack his cabinet with Washington outsiders, only to find that
he couldn't get anything done because they didn't know how to work the
Hill?

Jimmy Cater was just plain stupid.  That, and the fact that he was the very worst President in my life time.  He didn't earn the term "one term bubba" for nothing.

I would've given Obama a chance if he'd really thought outside the box and not brought in cronies, lobbyists, and former Clinton era pols.  Imagine if he'd recruited completely out of DC.  That would've been change that just about anyone could believe in.

wait did you all forget the last 16 yrs geeze?

Dems have had Congress for two years

yeah and the dems didn't have enough to override a veto

Nope.  If you think the war in Iraq was bad, it's a cake walk compared to the Iranian hostage crisis.  This economic crisis is a cake walk compared to the economy when Jimmy Carter was in. Jimmy Carter had a lower approval rating when he left office than Bush has now.  I voted for Obama strictly for the health care issue. No matter how well Obama does, it would be impossible for him to do worse than Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter's approval rating was 34% when he left office.  George W. Bush's latest approval rating is 28%.

The hostage crisis and the Iraq War are hardly comparable.  Over 4000 US soldiers have lost their lives in the Iraq War.  It has cost billions of dollars.  It has created increased instability in an already chaotic region.  The hostage crisis was demoralizing to the US, but hardly on the same level.  I'd say the hostage crisis was a cake walk compared to the Iraq War rather than the other way around.

And anyway, Carter can hardly be blamed for the hostage crisis in the way Bush can be blamed for the Iraq War.  Carter did not do anything to directly cause the hostage crisis, whereas Bush was the instigator of the Iraq War.  You may dislike the way Carter responded to the hostage crisis, but he is not to blame for it in the first place.

Steve,

A hostage crisis that was clearly sprung on Carter and the U.S., and that ultimately ended with the hostages being released -- and a war built on lies.. excuse me "bad intelligence"...  that has left THOUSANDS maimed, dead, orphaned, homeless, starving, etc. etc. etc.?

You reached so hard for that comparison, I'm shocked you didn't dislocate your shoulder.

I'll be sure and let the families of the dead soldiers know that.

This economic crisis is a cake walk compared to the economy when Jimmy Carter was in.

Talk to me when this economic crisis is over. If I still have a job I'll agree with you.

Not a fan of Jimmy Carter by any stretch but the man is FAR from stupid.  His biggest failing as a president was a poor ability to focus.  Instead of focusing most of his energies on say three issues, he focused on thirty -- and by so doing was ineffective.

As for "Worst President" -- Dubya easily has that distinction by my review.  Not only has he treated the constitution like a placemat, he's gotten us into an unnecessary war, squandered a surplus and, shockingly for one who purports to be republican, grew the size of government in a way not seen since our last Texan President.  What scary is he's not done yet.  He still has to issue his pardons.  The first pardon related to torture -- well -- imagine the shitstorm thats going to bring.

The upside is it might actually kill Olbermann.  Door closed, window opened and what not.
