Guys like Olbermann making fun of her every night will do nothing but militate her supporters and provide her a bigger platform in 2012 -- as a "picked upon conservative by the liberal mainstream media."

Sorry Geoff but when Olbermann does that it , it also rallies those that will hopefully keep her out of the White House. If she died I would be respectful and leave her alone, but she is still being heralded as the new wave of republicans.

Bill Clinton hasn't held public office in 8 years, but I still heard a joke about him on Letterman last night.

**********

Well, Letterman very well may think Clinton is still in office. Ol' Dave seemingly has been stuck in a rut for the past decade or so, from what little I've seen (and I used to be a big fan.)

It could be me, I just think its counter-productive and provides her a spotlight that she really doesn't deserve.  I think Olbermann does it because its red meat for his audience and he's a whore.  The real impact won't be on his audience who WOULD never vote her.  It would be on people like me.  It makes it all the more likely I'll see her name on a ballot in February 2012.*  And I really don't want to see that.

*Assuming I'm still registered as a Republican at that point -- by no means a certainty.

Edited to add: So its clear I think she's fair game I just don't think she's worth it.  Can't everyone make fun of Jon Corzine instead?

I would love to hear some Edwards jokes I can't stand the guy, believe me any man the would cheat on a wife that is fighting breast cancer while wanting to be president is a huge dumbass and very deserving of endless joking.

As much as I want to do cartwheels if that would happen, we need good republicans like you and Bruce, you will hopefully be the voting voice that gets the party back to where it once was.

edited to add: Geoff you never came off hotter than that last post. :0)

I really need to see how the RNC reorganizes.  If its a hard right turn, I am on my way to independent status.

Thats because, mercifully, its not about my expanding waistline!

No - I didn't pull that Palin gag out of thin air - she keeps talking to the press - nay, saying stupid things in a stupid way, and she will be called on it.

And Geoff, I agree that it's best to not give them attention, but... not in this case.  There are a dangerous ammount of people in America who believe, for reasons I can not fathom, that she is a viable candidate, and her Press tour is an attempt to keep that fire stoked and build the bridge for her future career, and as long as she does that, I will continue to remind people that it should be a bridge to nowhere.

I hear you Mike, really I do.  I get that.  I just don't agree.  I tend to think, generally, its just calling attention.  I just think ignoring her -- until she does something -- is the best.  I have no doubt she'll fuck up something in Alaska.

Edited to add: I may disagree with you Mike but you're still the bees knees in my book!

I hear where you're coming from Geoff - perhaps we're [those who are anti-Palin] trying too hard - mocking her at every turn, while we should be waiting for the big bomb moments to mock, I suppose.

On the other hand, constant mocking of Dan Quayle kind of put the kibosh to his career.  On the other hand, he did go on to be a signator to PNAC, so, in a sense, he did rise again under Bush...

Hm...

Geoff, you're a wiser man than I...

I don't believe thats true.  I just know that base better than you.  If you attack her you make her credible (because you attack "one of them.")*

*Social Conservatives, not Republicans per se.
