Addressing even people you loathe politely is always more effective, if only because it proves to everyone who's smarter and more mature.

Amen !  And for the record Valerie, you should not be called a female dog, by anyone !

Addendum: And Jodi should also be treated with kindness & respect, whether she wants to or not ! :-)

Good One Bruce, Tom Sawyer would be a good one, but lets shorten it to Sawyer.

That works too !  I used to work in a saw mill, so Sawyer it is !

When participating in Amnesty International letter-writing campaigns,

Over the years (via Open Doors), I've written several letters to heads of states where Christians are persecuted for their faith.  I have always addressed these leaders appropriately to their title and with kindness throughout the letter.  My goal has ever been to show that the Christians are worthy of proper treatment and a valuable asset to that leader's society.  I always close with a prayer for that leader, and their families.

Brother Andrew (founder of Open Doors) came up with an interesting acronym for ISLAM.  "I Sincerely Love All Muslims".  Andrew has had extensive discussions with members of Islamic terrorist groups, as well as sharing the Gospel of Christ with them.  I think he's an inspiration and a man worth following.  I'm surprised that I didn't mention him in my Real Life Heroes thread.  But, I did just now, so good !

BTW: I can also appreciate Jodi's disgust for world leaders who do horrible things.  However, I try to follow this principle:

PR 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Dan I almost smited you. LOL

Jodi, for the record, I am neither a Republican nor a fan of Bush's bungling of, well, pretty much everything.

Edited to add: Be still my heart Valerie, did you not vote for Bush in both his elections and Obama this one?

------------

All of my presidential votes were votes against candidates, never for. However bad a job I'd thought Bush had done, I honestly felt that, taking every issue into consideration, none of the Democratic candidates except Kucinich would have done any better in the long run.

And really, political party affiliation does not obligate anyone to vote for their party or otherwise adhere to party line. Any political party that demands such loyalty is unworthy of mine.

Clearly Obama is doing something wrong...

Ah, well, we're all human - everyone makes mistakes.  Here's hoping Obama can recover from this one...

From the article:
"It appears to me that the war in Iraq is coming to a successful — I don't want to say conclusion yet, but it's moving in a way that it will not be a divisive issue either in the Democratic Party or between Democrats and Republicans in the time ahead," Lieberman said. "And therefore, I think we'll return to more normal times, which I welcome."

Well that's a relief. For a minute I was afraid the objective was to either win the war or make the situation in Iraq more stable for the inhabitants of the what remains of the country. Good to know the soldiers are fighting to make the issue less divisive between two political parties, because THAT'S what's really important.

Why do they still put a microphone in front of this guy?
