Ha!

I read "Get Fuzzy" daily, and I completely missed the real-life counterparts to this until I just re-read them.

Thanks, Al!

I'm starting to not worry as much as I did about how Obama would run this country.  He has made a lot of moderate and some down right conservative choices in his appointments.  Not at all what I was expecting based on how he campaigned.  It's a definite pleasant surprise.

I dunno....Obama's choice of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State is a little disconcerting, in particular his way of dismissing a reporter's legitimate question about it:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/01/campbell.brown.clinto n/index.html

Whoever this Campbell Brown is, I have to say I agree with her here.

Why would he select a Secretary of State that was "wrong about Iraq"? (She voted for the resolution to use force) Then again, he picked a VP that feels that he isn't ready to be President, so I guess I should not be too surprised.

Could be really be giving her the position to keep her from running against him in 2012?

Well to be fair, Biden said what he said during the heat of a Presidential campaign.  If we were to take at face value everything an opponent said about the person who eventually becomes president, then no one would be ready to lead, be able to make the "right decisions" for the country, or fulfill the office like they would have.  The only reason to give that statement credence is if you don't believe in Obama as it's an easy one to dredge up out of context.

As to Hillary, her appointment doesn't bother or worry me in the least.  I see her position as one of a thank you for supporting him during his campaign and also one she's totally qualified to fill.  If she wanted to run against Obama in 2012, I don't know that being Secretary of State would stop her at all.

The thinking about it being a block against running in 2012, is that an attempt to run would put her in the position of having to stand in opposition of an administration that she had been a major part of.

Yeah, I get that, but it's not like she's Vice President.  Also, we're talking Hillary here.  I don't think anything except being Vice President would stand in her way should she consider running in 2012.

If Obama has a successful adminstration, I only see token people running against him in 2012 on the Dem side. The Party will not cut their own throat.

Hasn't that been the Democratic slogan for decades?  "The Party that will cut their own throat".  I'm a lifelong Democrat, but I'll believe they won't when I see it.  Just seen too many instances of when they screw it all up to believe what you say.

I dunno....Obama's choice of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State is a little disconcerting,

***

Just because of her statement about Iran:

“Well, the question was if Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel, what would our response be? And I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran. And I want them to understand that. Because it does mean that they have to look very carefully at their society, because whatever stage of development they might be in their nuclear weapons program in the next ten years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

The deranged look on her face when she said it was the scary part.

I thought Obama might do a West Wing and pick John McCain for the job.

Personally, I don't see that as a disconcerting statement at all. Quite the opposite - I find it comforting to hear that Mrs. Clinton doesn't favor capitulation to our enemies. She's saying that the U.S. will take a hard line to defend a staunch U.S. ally (Israel) against a terrorist state (Iran) should Iran attack Israel.

That's exactly the kind of approach you have to take with rogue nations like Iran. They understand power and the threat of force - and that's it.

If Hillary Clinton shows that kind of courage as Secretary of State, we'll all be well-served. And I think she will - she's shrewd and tough.

Okay, Obama-Mania is officially out of control: A small community in Alabama is declaring the second Monday in November as "Barack Obama Day" - with a paid holiday for county employees!

Are there any other examples of a holiday honoring a living, sitting president? Or even any living person, for that matter?

I could halfway understand if he was from this community, but he's not. I doubt he's ever even been there.

I mean, let's at least let the man take office before we change the name of our country to "The United States of Obama"!
