I'm not entirely sold on the choice of Hillary either.  I think she's too bitter and angry a woman to be the nation's leading diplomat.  Hopefully I'm wrong and she'll work hard to foster peace before making statements like the Iranian one above.

I find it amusing that the more conservative folks here find Hillary's appointment more comforting than liberals due to her more hawkish stance on these international issues. Personally, I think Obama's motivation here is to do what he can to shed the Democratic stereotype of being weak and wimpy in matters of national defense. I think it would be a pleasant irony for Democrats to eventually become the preferential choice in military and budgetary matters.

"That's exactly the kind of approach you have to take with rogue nations like Iran. They understand power and the threat of force - and that's it."

The definition of a rogue state is where the dictator and / or oligarchs don't happen to work for America's corporate and military interests. So the genocidal regimes that have ruled Colombia are the good guys. The populist regime of Venezuela are the bad guys. (I'm not a Hugo Chavez fan -- they're all thuggish.) That kind of thinking is what got us involved with, and then against Saddam Hussien. And of course into the current war and economic clusterf*ck we are experiencing.

Kevin said:
I think Bush views Obama's election as at least a partial repudiation of his presidency.

I am afraid you have vastly overestimated Bush's vocabulary here.

"Vocabulary? Isn't that what they call a police force in England?"
