I don't think it's wrapped up.  It will drag on until.

1.  The very last possible moment.

2.  Obama offers Clinton the VP position in exchange for her backing out.

Remember - it's not over till the bad lady destroys the Democratic Party.

Seriously, though, Obama's team leaked out today that he'll give his claim his win at the end of the month.  Clinton says she'll stay in till then, fighting (pointlessly) for her rule-breaking states, and then she'll roll over and start campaigning for Obama.

This begs the question - why the month wait?  (On Hillary's part - Obama's waiting till then to claim victory because he won't have the correct number of delegates till that point)  Possibly, as stated upthread, and is now being discussed in the mainstream media - to destroy the party, from which McCain wins and she rises from the dead in 2012.

Other reason?  Gives the Clinton team a month to deliver a devistating October Surprise, and take down Obama once and for all.  She's in the bunker with Hannity plotting it as we speak.... anyone want to guess what sort of play they'll use?  I think they've played their "sleeper muslim terrorist" card too many times - sane people have tuned that crap out.  What else have they got?

'Tis the season for political jokes -- and this seems like the appropriate thread for things political, so:

That's the level they're working on.

I keep expecting Bill Clinton to drunkenly blurt out something mind-blowingly stupid like "He's fathered black babies!"

I know it hurts the party in the short run, but I don't want Clinton to back out.  IMO, Obama is the worst thing that could happen to this country (well, Presidentially speaking) and Clinton staying in helps McCain.

My only fear is that by the end of McCain's four years the housing market/war/gas prices/economy will have improved and people will then keep him in office another 4 years instead of electing Clinton in 2012.  With all of that improving it could cause a swing in Congress toward the Republicans.

I'd laugh if I didn't believe you were serious, Scott...

I'm just confused as to why Jon thinks he's a Democrat.  Just switch parties and be done with it, you know?

Scott, in an earlier post you referred to Obama as "extremely liberal" and Clinton as "moderate" but left-leaning.  Today you are saying Obama would be disastrous for the country while Clinton would be a good choice.  Can you give me some examples of substantive issues or policies where Obama is significantly more liberal than Clinton?  Or how about even some examples where Obama and Clinton have significantly different policy positions?   I'll spot you the gas tax holiday (though I'd question whether it is "substantive") but is there anything else?

I'm pretty sure the economy in four years will be better than today regardless of who is in office; presidents get a lot of both credit and blame for things they have very little control over.
