I'm pretty pissed at Bush's speech in Israel today, clearly aimed at Democrats and Obama in specific. Comparing appeasement of Hitler to diplomacy and dialogue with our enemies today.

I'm perfectly willing to be the Hammerhead to your Jackass, Al!

Oh, and Mike, thanks for pointing out Obama's not even Muslim.  Can't believe i forgot that.  I have some conservative friends and we trade good-natured political barbs from time to time.  I get to play Alan Colmes ("I'm not a real liberal, but I play the token opposition."), and I got a good zinger recently concerning Obama when one of them "called him out" for being a Muslim (I HOPE he was kidding): "Hey, if I can forgive him for being a Christian, I think you can forgive him for being a Muslim, especially since HE'S A CHRISTIAN, NOT A MUSLIM!"

All things considered, David, knowing what we know about Bush after 8 years of failure and disgust, I wouldn't bet money on that...

Oh, and by the by, speaking of bromances, I've always enjoyed Kevin and Al, but this thread has elevated them to near Simkoesque status in my mind.

"Now, I know that if you vox populi enough people anywhere on anything you're going to get a few of what Patton Oswalt calls Raisin Cakes.  Hell, if you get me going eventually I'm gonna lay an egg or two also ("Tom Cruise will kill and eat Katie Holmes before this is over.  Count on it.").  But how can people serve up such low-hanging fruit, in America, the most advanced nation on earth?  Because he's another race?  Because he's a Muslim?  Because he has the same middle name as the last name of a former U.S. asset that we ran through the bad-P.R. machine?"

Those responses were beyond stupid...but come on. You know they interviewed tons of people and took the very worst responses. Believe me, you could have done the exact same thing in any other state with plenty of lower-income, uneducated black voters that voted for Obama and gotten responses just as ignorant.

While, yes, it's last in education in a variety of factors, let's not paint the whole state that way. Cheap shot from the Daily Show at an easy target for a cheap laugh.

More specifically, Joel, it was aimed at the fact that most of the news reports covering this story have gone out of their way to suggest that WV has such a low education rate - so, you know, that's the basis of the bit.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What does that have to do with the years of appeasement leading up to the war?

I want to quote something Joel said here (good point, by the way!), but
with a few key words removed. I hope he'll bear with me:

 QUOTE:

It doesn't matter from what direction the ignorance blows, it's all the
same.

And, of course, Joel's right.

I watched the episode on line this morning, and I didn't take it as a slam
at WV. I took it as a slam against ignorance - and a bigger slam at how
the media manipulates that ignorance for their own purpose.

I find The Daily Show, though politics provides the means, to be a show
that even more heavily satirizes the media's coverage thereof. Indeed, the
majority of their own coverage of the primaries has been; 'well, what did
the pundits have to say about this?' And then mercilessly satirize them.

I can't imagine that very many of their viewers aren't aware that they
likely went through hours of tape to pick those three nuggets.
