The law apparently demands that the president be born in the US and becomes a citizen that way. Having american parents is not enough. The law isn't interpreted too strictly, though. McCain, for instance isn't born in the US, but in Panama. However, he was born there because his father was a US military officer stationed there, and I would think it unethical and offensive if the children of US military personnel stationed abroad were somehow to be excluded from the presidency because of their parents' service to their country.
I think its the kind of law where people sometimes find it more convenient to not pick at it, since if it is challenged, the Supreme court might come back with the "wrong" clarifications. (I.e. undesirable clarifications)
