That is what is so exciting this time, people are getting so excited about Obama, this guy has something special about him. I am seeing republicans supporting him, maybe we as a nation will have a chance to get things done in this country instead of party bickering.

I sure as hell hope so. I think Obama really wants that, too.
I will confess I have nightmares that McCain picks Colin Powell for VEEP and Obama picks Hillary Clinton. I'm writing in Ron Paul/Dennis Kucinich if that happens (I'll flip a coin for which one is VEEP).

It's not about control of your stuff, how is labeling it, stopping you from getting it?
But as a mother I can make an informed choice when I see the ratings. That is how I do CONTROL my kids video gaming. Again not a bad thing.

On a side note - Tipper based her campaign on the fact that she caught her kids listening to Prince's "Darling Nikki" - a song about a guy visiting a prostitute.
I've had this dream project of a CD with a bunch of covers of the song by various artists - all different musical styles - like, say, (and I know this is leaning to the Mike O'Brien tastes, but just as an example) - U2 doing a rock version, and KISS doing thier big silly rock version, and George Michael doing a disco version, and Bob Geldof doing a folky version, and Regina Spektor rockin' it on the Piano, and Kanye West rapping it, and a country version (I only know Johnny Cash and the Dixie Chicks and Cash is dead, and I can't see the Chicks doing it... ) and so on and such forth.
Put it out and use the funds to raise money for advocacy groups and freedom of speach groups.
Ah, just a pipe dream of mine... if only I was a producer...

When you start the content label slide, you invariably end up affecting the content. Then you end up with a random "fuck" to get that R rating (or is it two fucks now?), or even worse: a PG-13 Die Hard movie.
Or record labels cut artists. The content is affected.
Furthermore: I grew up with a father who tried with all his might to keep me away from comic books because they were going to warp my mind. Wouldn't let me watch many movies or TV shows because they'd warp my mind. Wouldn't let me play Dungeons & Dragons because it would warp my mind. I'm starting to tear up a bit now, remembering the day I dismembered him and buried him in the root cellar...
edit: typos

Mike, I once drove 80 miles round-trip to the nearest record store, stopping only for the three minutes necessary to purchase a copy of Body Count before they ran out of copies with "Cop Killer" on them, for my little brother. This shit's important to me as well.

Ah, I still have my copy of Body Count with "Cop Killer" - I didn't have to travel as far, but I sure as hell ran out the door when I heard it was going to be yanked.
Good CD! Er, tape, actually, in my case...!

LOL maybe this explains why my 21yr old son has a copy of "cannibal holocaust" , it's from me keeping to the rating system, damn I should have let him watch those R movies when he was 13. LOL

Weeeeell... you never know, Jodi - I was allowed to watch Cannibal Holocaust at age 13, and look how I turned out.
(Now, that's a loaded sentence! How did I turn out? Some here will tell you I'm a filthy degenerate. Others will say I'm a fine upstanding member of the community. It's usually those who know me in person who say the later. Though, sometimes... what happens in Los Angeles with Tim O'Neill and Matt Reed and Bob Simko STAYS in Los Angeles with Tim O'Neill and Matt Reed and Bob Simko... )
((or was that Chicago??))
(((Blush!!)))
Seriously, though - I think the most important component is the parenting - and part of that is making sure that if your children DO see Cannibal Holocaust, they understand it - that sort of thing.
Having said that - based on the little I know about you (Jodi made something for my grandmother! She's good in my book!) - I'd say that your parenting was probably of a pretty high level and no matter what your kids saw, they probably turned out ok.
