I understand what you are saying about the Wright thing, but I won't hold that against him. He is half white and I just don't seem him as a self hater. I have heard him speak many times before he decided to run for office and he loved his mother and maternal grandparents and seemed to embrace both races. That is one reason I liked him, maybe he could be someone both black and white could be proud of and come together. I am so weary of not being united as a country.
The Bush people have feed us, fear and hate for someone different, for so long I see a hopeful future for my kids now. I wear my Obama button and I have had both white and black compliment me for having it on my purse, which I think is pretty cool.

This rumor is "swift boating" plain and simple.
And look what that did.

I'm looking for a candidate who cares about people (regardless of race and gender) and who will focus on building our country.
**********
Being a Swede (which is a more primitive race than any American) I think he is that person. When it's such an important job it's good that he doesn't care what he is and I think he is that person.

Well, all his speaches and writings support that, so... to quote someone else on this thread - worry about this theoretical "whitey"* when Michelle Obama runs for office.
* - Remember - this has not been proven.

Mike, just as people hold Bill against Hillary it's completely fair to do the same with Michelle. She is the person who will have his ear and influence him more than any other person. So, if (if) it turns out to be true, it matters.
Personally, Bill having Hillary's ear, IMO, is a good thing. The country ran well under him so his influence would be a good thing.

The rumor that there is a super-secret video tape of Michelle Obama railing against "Whitey"? A tape that is supposedly freely available on Trinity United Church's website, but that nobody noticed before? A publicly available tape that they are going to keep secret until October? Even though the Republicans have been champing at the bit to run against Senator Clinton instead of Senator Obama? And that the Republicans leaked to a blogger who supports Senator Clinton?
I've seen collanders less full of holes than that story.

I can imagine a scenario where the is no such tape, but they get everybody riled up with the rumor of what's on it. Then when it doesn't turn up, it gets spun as the GOP being too classy to run it.
Not saying that's the case, but it would be such a perfect political fake out - trashing a candidate without actually putting something out there.
It's like the one about a politician calling his opponent a pervert because he knew that just having to deny the allegation would be enough to make the guy look either shifty or ridiculous. (don't remember the exact quote.)

Ok, I'm game - let's play this - so, those of you who feel strongly about these things that Michelle Obama didn't say - would you say that you couldn't vote for her husband because she said these things?
Would you say that it's because you can not abide by these sort of words and thoughts being uttered? Under any circumstance?
Be honest.

With this post, we're at 2,025 replies in this thread... The number Obama needs to secure the nomination.
Just thought I'd mention that.
And then there's also this interesting tidbit: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080519/ap_on_el_pr/clinton_obam a

Being honest, let's assume I was willing to vote for Obama, yes, it would make me not vote for him. Because if he surrounds himself with racists (which is what Rev. Wright is and Michelle would be) and values them then he obviously has either zero skill at making judgements or he is a racist as well.

Release it in October and it's over. |

If it really does exist, then Obama and his wife must know that it exists, and they would be fools to sit around waiting until October to see if someone will circulate it or not. So they will come forward soon and try to get in front of it far before October. I imagine Clinton has people working on finding out whether it's true also, since it would hand her the nomination I think if it comes out before the convention. I also imagine Howard Dean has heard the rumors and asked Obama if they are true. Obama would be a fool to lie to Dean in such a case.
The more I think about it, I'm skeptical such a thing exists, because you would think someone would have come forward with it before now, or with an eyewitness report of the speech if not a videotape.
As to Mike's question, I could care less if Michelle Obama used the term "whitey". I don't think it makes her a racist, and it would not prevent me from voting for her husband. But I think it absolutely would prevent enough people from voting for him to make him unelectable.
