Brian: Love that "Bitch Please" graphic. Too funny. (And too true!)
Hmmm. One goofs up by mis-speaking which concentration camp his uncle
helped liberate. The other goofs up by backwardly suggesting that it's
possible her opponent could be assassinated.
While they may both have been simple gaffes, they are far, far different
things.
The "See? Obama gaffes too," notion here strikes me as very odd.

Too bad McClellan didn't resign and publicly announce why 2 or 3 years ago.
Then he would not have had time to write the book . . .
I look forward to seeing him interviewed -- I am sure someone will ask that very question (they really should).

Al:
I agree its not the same level of gaffe -- but I don't believe that Hillary was saying the RFK thing to mean "it happened then it could happen now" -- I really think she was looking for any event where there was an "open contest" for the nomination in June. I don't believe there was a malicious intent. I don't like her, but I don't believe she was inviting an assasination attempt on Obama. I really think she just fucked up. I think the sharpest of people get confused after talking all day and they say things that with more sleep and more time to contemplate that they probably wouldn't say otherwise. Thats my point.

Sure, she messed up. It was just a gaffe. I don't for a moment think she
meant any suggestion that Obama is in danger, and I certainly don't think
she meant to associate Obama with Bobby Kennedy. As you say, she just got
confused and said something she wouldn't have if she was better rested and
prepared.
But it was a gaffe of a totally different kind, with far different ramifications
than a "dang, what was the name of that concentration camp that my uncle
helped liberate" mix-up.

What I'm really trying to say here is that this is something worth considering:
When Obama goofs up, it's about the exact location of something heroic.
When Clinton goofs up, it's about her opponent getting offed.
Sure, they were both simple, human goof-ups, and no harm was meant by
either. But the vastly different subject of these simple goof ups is itself very
telling.

Or it was that her daughter was near the WTC on sept 11th... or it was that she was under fire while on a diplomatic mission... or it was that her grandfather used to take her out hunting as a lass... or the vast right-wing conspiracy...
she's played out -- stop Hillary. Please just stop. If you're reading this right now Mrs. Clinton, do yourself a favor and quit before you screw up even the most remote chance in 2012.
For God's sake -- more for ours -- just stop.

I'm not convinced of that Kevin. I think he was never part of the inner circle. I think he was used.

Torn about Powell. I'd like to say he was used, but it's hard to believe somebody that intelligent could have the wool pulled over his eyes. From what I've read, he was in one of two squarely opposed camps, and Bush ultimately sided against his position. Powell then had a choice: resign or support the position he opposed. He chose the latter, but I sympathize, surely, because the pressure put on him must have been unimaginable.
