Oh really? The more I read about it and think about it, the more very
deliberate it seems. I feel quite certain she knowingly OK'd it.

 QUOTE:
If she was on the top of her game (i.e. not suffering from lack of
sleep and talking all day) she would have noticed what the speech writers
wrote and questioned it.

I can't agree with this. She's said it on multiple occasions. Time has a
quote from her back in March.

From an interview published March 6th:

 QUOTE:
TIME: One group that probably ultimately wouldn't want it to go
on too long is the Democratic Party itself. Can you envision a point at
which — if the race stays this close — and with the difficulties that
everyone has analyzed in accumulating enough delegates to get any
distance ahead where party elders would step in and say "Senators
Clinton and Obama, this is now hurting the party and whoever will be the
nominee in the fall. We need to figure this out."

CLINTON: No I really can't. I think people have short memories. Primary
contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of
Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn't wrap
up the nomination in 1992 until June, also in California. Having a primary
contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual. We will see how
it unfolds as we go forward over the next three to four months..

Are you kidding? I wouldn't be surprised if Hilary's the one who thought of that line!

Even if she came up with it I really don't think she meant anything by it.  I don't like Hillary at all but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Here's a thought - I hate to admit this, but I can see how it's an honest mistake - I mark time with events too (and I was a History Major!) - you remember, you know, November 1963, February 1965, April 1968, December 1980, September 2001 - it's just a way to mark time.

Having said that...

As the Time quote shows - she's being using the line - she knows it, and is familiar with it.

At this point, the only way she'll be the nominee is if someone kills Obama.  She doesn't have the popular vote, the electoral vote and as of recently, she doesn't even have the super-delegate vote.  She came in close - a good strong second, but she just doesn't have it.  All she can do at this point is outlive him.

It's grim, but that's the reality.  So... you know, even if it's not a hint or a Manchurian trigger, at worst, it's an unfortunately Freudian thing to bring up.

At the very least, however, as I noted upthread, it thrills me to no end to see her hoisted upon her own petard finally.  SO done with this shitty "GOTCHA" politics.  I admire McCain and Obama for trying (not always succeeding, but at least trying - especially compared to Clinton) to rise above it.

"Well, why, all of a sudden, if he had all these grave concerns, did he not raise these sooner? This is one-and-a-half years after he left the administration. And now, all of a sudden, he’s raising these grave concerns that he claims he had. And I think you have to look at some of the facts. One, he is bringing this up in the heat of a presidential campaign. He has written a book and he certainly wants to go out there and promote that book."

Scott McCellan talking about Richard Clarke.

---------------------------------

McClellan now understands what Clarke was dealing with in that your allegiance should not be to a certain group or a powerful political affiliation but to America as a country itself. True patriots that see a greater good in truth and felt obligated to shine a light on the endless lies and propaganda perpetrated by the Bush team.
