I'd like to see the members of congress selected by lottery.

I'm sorry Jodi, but I have to call bullshit on this one. It's neither fair nor
correct, and it diminishes childless people.

I can't believe I'm saying this... I agree with you, Christopher.

I mean, I know the historical precedence for the "electoral college" but geez, aren't Americans educated enough to steer their own waters?

"The child was visiting when the incident occurred, and told a neighbor that
the suspect had been drinking when the alleged abuse occurred"

Huh. A relative, perhaps?

Geoff I agree with a lot of what you are saying, my problem is with the branding of Greg, as a person, that thinks gay couples should not be allowed to adopt children, because he is concerned over unrelated males wanting to spend alone time with a child, something that was said in a thread about molesting priests. I believe his words were twisted to mean something completely different.

Did you read the thread?

Before I had my child I thought I understood what it was to love someone, I loved my mom and dad, I loved my husband, but until I had my son, I did not know what pure unselfish love was. This tiny person is the one person I would give my life up for. Does that mean that childless people can not love the same way, no that is not what I am saying. I am saying FOR ME it was the first time I ever felt unselfish love before.

Then, please, don't judge what others are capable of feeling or
understanding based on your own experience.

Well I'm not suggesting they be stoned to death but I don't think selecting by lottery would be any worse than how we do it now. At least we would get some regular people instead of career politicians whose main goal in life is to be re-elected. There would be intelligence and psych tests to make sure those selected are mentally capable of understanding their jobs. Criminal background checks too. Of course if we had those tests done on our current Congress we'd probably lose half the membership.

Al you can call all the bullshit out you want, but regarding men and children, I think there is evidence to support extra concern when children are involved.

A scary thought in itself, Christopher! But it would be nice to have some
sort of qualifications and standards set.

Who was it that said that the last person who should hold office is someone
who wants the job?
