Following up from Kevin's post in Tom's wedding thread, here's McCain's view on adoption -- so by that rational a single straight person should not be an adopted parent either right?

Your bug zapper analogy is pretty dead on.  I don't mean to belittle the situation, but to put it in simple terms, we need James Bond, not GI Joe.

I think we're on the same page though, overall on this.

That McCain, he's a maverick -- except when he's trying to win his party's nomination...

Anyone remember, in the early post-9/11 days, when the storm-troopers, er, I mean the god-loving patriots defended domestic warentless spying, phone tapping, cameras on city streets, breaking of search and seizure amendments to the US Constitution, etc, by bleating "If you goooot nooothing to hiiiide, whyyyy are you scaaaaared?  Baaaaaa."

well...

I don't think so.

Sorry...guess that wasn't clear. I was saying I don't think a single, straight person should adopt.

Well, the single, gay people will be heaving a sigh of relief that their
options are still open at least.

Edited for grammar.

I don't have a problem with single people adopting.  I don't have a problem with gay people adopting.  I think any adoption requires a stringent review of the potential parent(s).  But marital status, race, faith, gender, sexual orientation should not be impediments, per se, to a responsible adult adopting a child.

In fairness to Joel, Al, I don't think he's saying no to gays adopting, I think he's saying only people in committed relationships should adopt.

Edited for clarity

Let's ask:

Joel:

In your view, should only straight people adopt?

Should only couples adopt?
