I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't need the recent DVD release to remember
Falken's name. Or Joshua. Or the WOPER.

You lose your Generation X card if you don't know that Wargames reference...

Don't know if this has been previously been touched upon in this thread--and I'm obviously not gonna wade through 183 bloody pages to find out!--but if not then it needs to be. Entertainment Weekly asked Obama and McCain about their pop culture influences and one of the questions posed was who their favorite superhero is.

Obama picked Spider-Man and said, in part: "The guys who have too many powers, like Superman, that always made me think they weren't really earning their superhero status. It's a little too easy.''

McCain, meanwhile, picked Batman because, "he doesn't make his good works known to a lot of people, so a lot of people think he's just a rich playboy.''

Certainly not awful choices, by any means, but I couldn't help wishing they'd demonstrated a bit of comic book cred and said something like the following...

McCain: "The Punisher, because he served in 'Nam, just like me. And if he's not too old to blow away evildoing scum, then I'm not too old to be president."

Obama: "The Black Panther, because he proves a man of color can successfully lead a country with both strength and compassion. Plus, he's married to a real hottie, just like me!"

Interesting stuff Albert! Of course McCain picked the rich guy!  I'm surprised he didn't go for Iron Man  :o)

We know Obama wouldn't support Firestorm what with the nuclear energy and what not . . . .

Funny, I was thinking McCain/Iron Man, too.

I guess if either had picked Captain America, it would've been too obvious.

So now the 2008 election is about who would win in a fight, Spider-man or Bat-man? This should be good ...

The cynical Bush-bashing bastard in me prays this is true, the part of me with hope for humanity prays that it isn't.

McCain's latest ad is very effective without being negative at all.

Pretending that respectful comments about his character are actual
endorsements? Pathetic. Even more pathetic is the fact that people are
going to by into this kind of thing...

Those endorsements by Democrats, though, are years old, from back in the time when McCaine was actually--McCaine.

Obama's campaign has already replied with an identical ad featuring the same people, but more recent, and now they're all slamming the guy. One even said that the John McCaine of 2000 wouldn't vote for the John McCaine of 2008.

Even more importantly, Rik; they're not endorsements. They're a smattering
of the type of respectful comments that one has to pay to ones opponent
during an election season.

Thinking of them as endorsements is exactly the kind of leap that the ad is
hoping people will make.
