For Clinton to be McCain's running mate, she'd have to be nothing but a cynical power-seeking opportunist with no core political values whatsoever.  There are few substantive differences between her stated policy positions and Obama's, whereas there are gigantic differences between her positions and McCain's.  I don't think Clinton is that cynical or that lacking in a genuine core belief system.  Besides, I don't think it would work.  Her feminist base would be so turned off by McCain they'd view her as a traitor.  And how would the hardcore Limbaugh constituency react, after 15 years of being told she is the Antichrist?  They'd stay home in droves.

I think Hillary is that lacking in a core belief system; however, I think she realizes that her credibility would be totally shattered if she switched parties; for better or for worse, she's married to the Democrats now, because it would be too costly to leave.  Hmm.

I agree. It's an absolutely crazy idea and would NEVER work. And she's smart enough to realize that. And so is McCain. In fact...why are we even talking about this?

And that's what makes it so plausible!

In fact, lemme slip off my tinfoil hat so the aliens can beam their instructions into my brain again... just a sec... yes, I'm getting a clear signal.

McCain, increasingly infirm, wants to die but doesn't want the shame or stigma of suicide to harm his family, so he picks Hillary for veep, thus insuring she will kill him in order to gain the throne.

Okay, my teeth are trying to to bite the cats again, time to slip the tinfoil hat back on, and apologize to the cats.

edit: tinfoil or not, typos will occur

McCain picking Clinton is about as likely as McCain picking Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Thanks for humoring me, guys. I have to admit that I don't see either Clinton having "core beliefs" of their own beyond believing to the core that they deserve the White House. Everything else is negotiable. Even more than "regular" politicians, I see Hillary as opportunistic and pragmatic. Just a gut feeling, but I could see her doing whatever it took to get what she feels she deserves.

Kevin, tell the aliens I said "Hi".   : )

Wayde, I don't possess the interstellar wormhole technology to communicate with the aliens.  I DO have a set-up with a Mr. Microphone and an array of 32 car batteries, but it will take 492 million light years for a response to my message: Hey good lookin', we'll be back to pick you up later.

"Tell the aliens I said 'Hi'."  Watch out for Wayde, people.  He craaaazy.

Kevin, you say that like it's a bad thing. Or maybe you just think the aliens won't believe in me...

"On the way to work this morning they were talking about how the polls may currently be skewed by people who are not supporting Obama, but don't want to appear to be racist.  When asked face to face or on the phone by a pollster, they say they are voting for Obama just so they don't appear to be racist."

This editorial by Gail Collins could be subtitled "How Joe Liberman Ruined Everything"  I know how Kevin loves Joe Liberman!  That porcelian white skin! Jo-Mentum!

David Brooks makes a very compelling case for Joe Biden.  Wonder if Biden would still go on Imus if he were VP?
