I can understand your feelings on Hagel (tho I like him) but why not Biden
and why Clark?

A Secret Service team has been sent to protect Biden. I'd say that's a big clue.

Biden is shrill, a proven plagiarist and from both a state AND region that Obama is already sure to win by what will probably be his highest margins of victory. Other than that, he's great!
When picking a VP, first do no harm.

My sources say it's Biden. I didn't realize I had sources, but it turns out I do. This guy is in the campaign, and while he doesn't know for sure, says the internal scuttlebutt is saying it will be Biden. Take it with a grain of salt.
If so... eh. Not bad. I'm not sure anybody else would be better. I'm fairly neutral on Biden as a person. His political views are completely wrong (in my opinion), but that'll be the case with all potential Obama running mates. Personality-wise, he doesn't rub me as wrong as most congressmen. I think Obama needs a stable, old-school, respectable VP. Over the last month or so he's pretty much lost any lead he had over McCain, and I think it's mainly because he sometimes comes across a bit lightweight. The pop-celebrity-style news coverage isn't doing him any favors.
For McCain, I think the current governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, would be a great choice.

Keith,
I am guessing you're right... first Lieberman (a man from a state and region that Gore was already going to win, and did win, by huge margins), then Edwards (a man who chose to retire from the Senate rather than risk likely defeat in his bid for a second term) ... it's getting harder and harder for me to think that my party has STOPPED their habit of snatching defeat from victory.

Mr "I'm going to bring change", picks a guy who's been in the Senate for more than half of his life. He could've done much worse but not a great VP pick.

Well, if it's Biden, that frees up McCain to pick Romney. The suck would be about equal. The only way he could do worse is Leiberman. Or Cheney.

I was hoping Obama would choose Powell, a man in need of redemption. Their slogan could be Save The Cheerleader, Save The World.

Pretty inevitable, I think. Obama's inexperience-masquerading-as-change is already wearing thin, as everyone except for perhaps the most starry-eyed of supporters realize that his "New Politics" look suspiciously like the Old Politics -- if he had picked another "new" politician, it would have just been two amateurs running for office. He needs someone with some seasoning to balance him.

Not quite the 'energizing' pick, though, is it?

Biden is (to quote David Duchovny's character on Californication) a dial tone. An insider, an establishment guy. The only possible positive I can see for Obamessiah is that Biden likes to make people think he's a big foreign policy guy.
If McCain picks Romney, it won't matter who Obama picked...McCain will lose.
Powell can't run for office because he was apparently in the command chain during the Mai Lai Massacre. At least that's what my college textbook in my 1960s class said, hehe.
