Getting ordinary people afraid of a Black president is the Republicans' best chance at winning, and it's a potential game-stealer.

I don't agree thats it is the best chance for the GOP to win.  Democrats have a habit being poor closers when it comes to elections.  They also allow the GOP to frame them.  That said I think this is a big week for Obama.  He needs to be the candidate he was in January through March, before the Wright stuff and before Hillary figured out that portraying Obama as an elitist works.  Part of yesterday was to strip the Obama identity of the eliteism albatross (which carries an assumed life of privilege, something the Obama's decidely did not have).   Did you hear how many times Michele Obama refered to Blue Collar Roots (either explicitly or covertly)?

The Republicans were pretty good at exploiting the anger and fear against Muslims after 9/11

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 They were?

These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith.  And it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that.

The English translation is not as eloquent as the original Arabic, but let me quote from the Koran, itself:  In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil.  For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.

The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam.  That's not what Islam is all about.  Islam is peace.  These terrorists don't represent peace.  They represent evil and war.

When we think of Islam we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world.  Billions of people find comfort and solace and peace.  And that's made brothers and sisters out of every race -- out of every race.

America counts millions of Muslims amongst our citizens, and Muslims make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country.  Muslims are doctors, lawyers, law professors, members of the military, entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, moms and dads.  And they need to be treated with respect.  In our anger and emotion, our fellow Americans must treat each other with respect.

George Bush 9/17/2001

THAT particular Republican is good at very little, including living up to his own rhetoric.

How about providing one example of this exploitation.

Christopher a speech does not equal invading an innocent Muslim country and killing thousands of their people. If the republicans were not good at exploiting the anger and fear after 9/11 how did they sell that invasion to you?

It's funny I watched the convention last night and I was so proud of Michelle Obama, what a classy lady, someone that worked her ass off thru education to reach her high goals, truely someone I would want my nieces to use as a role model.

"They also allow the GOP to frame them."

The key would be to portray Obama as having undeserved privilege. He being the son of people from the social and geographic fringe of America. McCain being the son of generals, war hero, etc. So the double standard might well work.

The equation was 9/11 = terrorist = Muslim = Arab. Therefore the Iraq invasion was a response to 9/11. People still think Saddam was behind 9/11. All this originated from the White House.

I was touched by her speech as well, Jodi.  I think she did what was needed of her.  I'm still wondering if the Clintons will torpedo this convention tho!

Then again, my nieces could be adopted by a wealthy family, live a life of privilege, have an affair with a married man, marry him so her family could get political influence, then one day becoming first lady.

God the choices are so hard. Hee hee

Edited to add:Sorry Geoff I couldn't resist

9/11 = terrorist = Muslim = Arab

... is the same kind of hate mentality that led to the murder of a muslim boy in England recently.
