David: I saw John McCain defend not knowing how many houses he had with: I'm a war hero don't you know...
Oh really? Where did you see that? I call BS.
And really, what we're seeing here is Barak and the Dems playing old school politics. The real reason for McCain's nonanswer comes from owning multiple properties, some of which they do not reside in. These properties are bought and sold - especially in today's volatile market. It's not bc "the rich old guy doesn't know how many houses he has." But of course, Barak's team saw an opening they could exploit to get around Barak's own elitist bad rap. And yes, I think calling Barak elitist is BS as well.
Geoff: He is selling optimism, even more than Bill Clinton did. Its why I think he's so effective a candidate. He's selling himself and this nation. I think its a killer cocktail. I don't think anyone has done it as well since Ronald Reagan.
I agree 100%.

Sure, the McCain "how many houses" thing is silly and trivial, but it kind of serves him right for trying to propound the "Obama is an elitist" theme.
And where exactly did that START? Oh yeah, it's from the lady that's speaking tonight...

Look at it this way if you are unsure who to vote for, think of a vote for McCain as a way of cancelling out, this guys vote :0) :

(Louis Farrakhan for anyone who doesn't recognize him)

I think Clinton would have helped the ticket quite a bit. I don't think she would have had much of any negative effect at all. I think it was poor judgment on Obama's part not to set aside his personal dislike for her to do the strategically best thing.
McCain's best option now would be to select a female running mate, to go after disgruntled Clinton supporters.

Now I concede that I don't care for Obama and think he's a terrible choice so there's a level of bias here, but I fail to see how he could be considered effective by any standard. At no point since Watergate have the Democrats had more in their favor to claim the White House: we have a poor economy, a lingering & unpopular war, and a largely hated Republican President who is blamed for both. Any Democrat should be trouncing any Republican by a double digit margin. That McCain and Obama are in a virtual dead-heat or Obama is, at best, leading by low single digits seriously undermines any claims towards Obama's effectiveness.

So Jodi, are you saying that if someone doesn't vote for Obama they are either members of the KKK, or supports what the KKK stands for?
Nope that's not what I am saying, I am saying I know for a fact a member of the Klan will not be voting for Obama, are you saying you think the klan guy is going to vote for Obama? Edited to add: If Obama was running against a dog the Klan guy would vote for the dog.
And just an FYI, Obama denounced Farrakhan, it made Farrakhan mad, so I wouldn't assume he is supporting Obama .
The thing that bothers me about McCain is, he said to be considered wealthy you had to make over 5 Million a year, I would say that is a little bit out of touch with the average American.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zovk-H5qmBE
And I know this is kind of minor, but I have a real problem with him admitting he doesn't know how to use the internet.
Here is the actual video of him saying it:

And Obama said you are rich if you earn north of $150K regardless of what
part of the country you live in! That REALLY bothered me. Chuck Schumer
believes that a family of four living on Long Island, NY earning $75,000 is
middle class! Thats fucking comical!

Obama's effectiveness.
Following the 2000 election John McCain was the most popular politician
in
the USA. You underestimate how much capital he still has. His being a
maverick is what makes him an effective candidate, You diminish Obama
by
not giving McCain enough credit.
Edited to add:
The other thing impacting Obama's campaign is that the DNC is a fucking
joke. Understand I am not criticizing democrats for their positions but for
their party leadership. As a party they cannot get out of their own way.
The reason the party is so fractured is because the party leadership is
weak and impotent. THEY allowed a schism to develop by foolishly
penalizing swing states in an election year. Instead of selling their
strengths they have tried to sell the GOP's weaknesses. The fact they
didn't get more seats in 2006 is further evidence of weak organization.
Obama is doing well in spite of his party's leadership and the machine he
has built has been extraordinary.

Agree 100% I will not donate to the DNC I donate to the campaign of those I support, for that very reason.

In Muncie Indiana, if you make $150,000 a year you are considered rich. I don't know about Long Island, but an average income in Indiana is around $40,000, a friend of mine has a family of 5 kids and her husband makes about that much and she doesn't work. It would scare the hell out of me, but they do alright, they just NEVER eat out or take vacations.
