If there is a question that the Ayers ad is in contravention of election law, is
the Justice Department not the right body to ask to intervene?

Charles Schumer wrote a book about a family of four earning $75,000 living on Long Island as comfortable middle class people

Fighting back is one thing Kerry didn't do effectively enough in 2004... but, attempting to suppress or legally sanction political speech is vile and is not helping me rebound from the disappointment I experienced over the selection of Joe "he's gonna help me win Delaware!" Biden as Obama's running-mate.

Nothing in the Obama-Ayers ads that I've seen crosses over into the very narrow realm of libel.  That said, this "guilt by association" crap regarding Obama and Ayers stinks to high heaven.

Not entirely true -- children are born with hate. It's a very primal emotion.
Children have to be taught what to hate, which is, ultimately, the root
of what you're saying.

Sadly, political speech is one of the most highly regulated forms of speech, when it ought to be the least.

Al, you are correct.  But the part that bothers me is the attempt at intimidation towards stations airing the ad, especially the Sinclair stations.  Four years ago, the Sinclair stations were the ones that aired the half hour documentary/infomercial produced by the Swift Boat group.  John Kerry didn't fight back, and we all know how that worked out.  Now instead of fighting back and trying to prove the commercial false, the Obama campaign is seeking to stop political speech that is against him.

I have ZERO love for the Sinclair company.  I've never worked for them, but know several people that have and they seem to be the lowest form of life in the broadcast community.  Even lower than reality show producers (Hi Matt).

I see. Thanks for expanding on that, Jeff!

If the request is based on violation of election law I have no problem with it.  Obviously, any supression of speech must be narrowly construed.

As to the Biden selection I don't put much stock into the idea that a VP pick wins a state.  Its clear that he's looking at Biden more as an advisor.

Where does this come from? Results found during research on newborns?  How did anyone get newborns to display their measurable hatred?

Geoff,

I was being sarcastic about picking Biden to win Delaware, which Obama will do handily without ever setting foot in such a "blue" state.  I am disappointed precisely because he didn't choose a VP to try to win a state or region!  In the last two elections, the Democratic nominee chose running-mates in an attempt to garner some mythical "national appeal" at the expense of the electoral math (both lost by ONE state).  I am old-school...  stop sitting on your brain and pick someone who can win you some REAL (i.e. electoral college) VOTES, you SCHMUCKS!

Marc:

Fortunately I look good with dunce cap on! So I suspect you'd have liked him to pick Casey or Rendell?
