Joe,

Exactly.  I think it's soooooo cute that Geoff and Matt choose to see the "best" in them though.

If the most sarcastic retort you can launch is that I choose to see the best in people, even politicians, then I can live with that.

Matt,

That is totally fine!  I have no problem with you seeing the BEST in POLITICIANS.  I happen to think that that is a contradiction in terms, what is the big deal?  We just disagree. Jeez.

I pride myself on being intelligent, dispassionate and non-delusional

That's all well and good but can you cook?

The same way I KNOW it is racial/religiously bigoted when radio talk-show hosts make a habit out of calling him Barack Hussein Obama and then react with wide-eyed, innocent shock when called on it.

Radio talk show hosts that do that aren't doing it out of bigotry or racism.  They are doing it to put doubt/fear in the minds of their listeners.  Do you honestly think that someone like Rush Limbaugh really cares that Obama is black?  No.  Playing on fears isn't racist or bigoted.  It may be underhanded but it's the norm on both sides.

Now the person who hears that and thinks he's Musilm or thinks about Obama being black is most likely racist and being ruled by their fears but it doesn't mean the radio host is.  It just means they know how to play to their audience.

Here's the thing...if his name was Chuck Smith, would the Bin Laden jokes/references be there? I don't think so.

Scott,

In my opinion your reply is frankly jaw-dropping.  You are essentially saying that a person who foments bigotry and racism is not racist or bigoted!  You also say "playing on fears isn't racist or bigoted" --- if you are playing people's fears ABOUT a person's race or religion that is racist and bigoted in my book, and I reject your attempt to reduce it to simply "underhanded."

If we found some concrete proof (and I know of no such proof) that Hitler didn't give a damn about Jews, non-Jews, etc., he just needed a scapegoat to facilitate his ascendancy to power and they happen to fit into his plans perfectly; would you say he was just simply garden-variety power-hungry?  Or, would you think he was still a venal anti-semite?

Obama's speech?  Eh.

I have buyer's remorse.  Although I despise her on a personal level; I want Hillary as the Democratic Party nominee.

Marc, just curious...what makes you say "eh"? Same old stuff?  I liked it, but wasn't blown away.

I am just liking the man less and less in general.  As for speeches that need to knock it out the park and then fall short?  Well, let's just say, it doesn't help.

I am questioning whether he has what it takes to close the deal and win in November.  Frankly, I think McCain has been cleaning his clock lately, and he's just taking it.  Or, he doesn't respond to the attacks because he's busy being on vacation... again.

Listening to Bill's speech last night, I couldn't help but go "now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!" ---- with Obama lately, I just hope that he limits his speeches to 4 or 5 hours.

You guys are so boned. Mcain is going to win because the democrats can't get their sh*t together and then he is going to continue Bush's trip down a long road into hell.

We are blessed with a Bush-wannabe up here but at least he has a minority government. Even better, he is going to call an election KNOWING that he can only win another minority. Not really sure why he wants to spend millions of tax dollars in order to break his own legislation mandating fixed election dates or to achieve exactly nothing.

Guess we are all boned.
