Robin,

You're probably right.  Another thing helping McCain is the near-certainty that Democrats will pick up seats in the House and Senate, remaining firmly in control of Congress.  The American people love them some divided government!

Frankly, I think McCain has been cleaning his clock lately, and he's just taking it.  Or, he doesn't respond to the attacks because he's busy being on vacation... again.

I agree...though I thought he did a better job tonight of giving it back to McCain. Especially re: having the judgement and temperament to be president.

Listening to Bill's speech last night, I couldn't help but go "now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!" ---- with Obama lately, I just hope that he limits his speeches to 4 or 5 hours.

Ha!

Marc:  The same way I KNOW it is racial/religiously bigoted when radio talk-show hosts make a habit out of calling him Barack Hussein Obama and then react with wide-eyed, innocent shock when called on it.  "It's the man's name for goodness sake!"

They do it to make fun of somebody they don't like because his name is coincidentally similar to a very bad man.  You don't need to resort to accusing somebody of racism or bigotry, when it really is just schoolyard-level teasing.

Marc:  Exactly.  I think it's soooooo cute that Geoff and Matt choose to see the "best" in them though.

You know, public self-congratulation on your own intelligence is unseemly, especially when it's in regards to something that is unprovable.  You don't know their motives.  Skepticism is a good trait, but you should maybe try being skeptical even about your own skepticism.

I thought his speech was very good trying to reach out to not just the home
crowd at the stadium but also independents and moderate republicans. I
thought he accomplished what he needed to do.

I thought the first third of his speech was the standard Obama speech, but at about the middle he started firing up and the last third was outstanding.

His kids are as cute as they can be, man what a beautiful family.

I thought Gore gave a great speech too, less robotic.

catching up here...

On Biden - Back in the day '79 <i think> Senator Biden shared President Jimmy Carter’s belief that the fall of the Shah in Iran and the advent of Ayatollah Khomeini’s rule represented progress for human rights. Boy did that screw things up and lead to current historic events... Biden is another frackin' lawyer. Geez people can we stop nominating/electing frackin' lawyers.

On the whole name thing - First, I believe he is a practicing Christian, and was <still?> a member of Trinity United Church, we know he is not a Muslim now. However, as a child, it seems he was a practicing Muslim who occasionally prayed with his step-father in a mosque. This does not make him less qualified to become president of the United States, but if he was born and raised a Muslim and is now hiding that fact... he is now what Islamic law calls a murtadd/apostate, an ex-Muslim converted to another religion who must be executed. If elected president this might have some implications for his relationship with the Muslim world.

That whole Pakistan thing in '81 - Pakistan was on the banned travel list for US Citizens at the time and all non-Muslim visitors were not welcome. Considering current world affairs I have the right to know more about this excursion. Especially form a Presidential nominee!

His associations - Obama calls his years as an Alinskyesque (Saul Alinsky)community organizer in Chicago "the best education I ever had, and where I learned the true meaning of my Christian faith."

Wait there is more, we have Ayers and others like Rezco
"Obama called it "boneheaded" because people might think the Rezkos had done him a favor."
Fine I forgive you for that mistake but the others <?>

For me, there are too many questions unanswered, shady characters in his life and that lovely wife, trying so desperately to hide *her* <I suspect socialist> agenda.

Like others I wish there were stringent Term Limits.
Vote with your head not your heart.

So tired of the same politics - this is not change dammit... I think I will write in John Byrne on my ballet.

g'night

McCain's health care policy advisor on insurance:

But the numbers are misleading, said John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning Dallas-based think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.)

"So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime," Mr. Goodman said. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care.

"So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved."

Yup.

I cannot believe I just read that.

That is the stupidest thing I've read in some time, and I read a
considerable amount of stupid things on a daily basis lately (it is an
election season after all).

Fortunately, I trust that 99% of the members of this forum see right
though a statement like that and can do the simple math for themselves:

Playing on a fear of race or religion is an act of racism and bigotry.

Plain and simple.

Vile and disgusting, too...

LOL

but if he was born and raised a Muslim and is now hiding that fact

I love how some people, "cough, cough Daniel, Cough, cough" basically twists and turns that facts without giving one credible source for his information (and Faux News doesn't count) :0)  When I was a little girl I went to a couple Reds game with my parents, that makes me a Reds baseball player, but hey I am hiding that fact.

*her* <I suspect socialist> agenda

LOL

Biden is another frackin' lawyer. Geez people can we stop nominating/electing frackin' lawyers.

We gave stupid a chance and we saw how that worked out. Personally I want the person who will be our President to understand the laws to which we live. Example: Bush and Cheney are not lawyers and they have such a disregard for it , it boogles the mind.  But I will give you props for your use of "Frackin" /Frakin

Barack taught Constitutional Law, was Editor of the Harvard Law Review, which he got the job based on his grades. Then went and worked to better his community.

FYI:  McCain graduated 894 of 899

shady characters in his life
