It's truly sad that many people will cast their vote not on Bush himself, but how he was covered by the press.

I was watching the faux-preaching farce that was/is the 2008 Democratic Convention -- thinking to myself how gullable these poor people are
Glad you're not bitter and hateful. LOL I am sorry after reading your post, if your wife is a democrat and you think like this ,she couldn't be a very firm Democrat. If I was married to a man that thought this way, we wouldn't make it to a year.

Wallace: It's truly sad that many people will cast their vote based not on Obama
himself, but how he was covered by the press.
But some of those people were only interested in Obama in the first place because of the press coverage. Live by the vagaries of the press, die by the vagaries of the press.
From here on out, the only major factors will be (1) how the candidates do in their debates, (2) how world affairs and the US economy does in the next few months (bad = good for Obama, good = good for McCain), and (3) which way the undecided moderates fall.
I think the press is more influential earlier in the campaign.

If McCain picked Palin in part to try to go after the support of those who

You think so? Polls have indicated a notable amount of Clinton
supporters (like 20% or something) claim to be seriously contemplating
McCain, in spite of the fact it defies all logic. Those people clearly
weren't for Hillary because of her policy stances, (given the vast
differences between her and McCain), so their support for her must have
been based on gender or personality. The Palin pick now gives these
folks an even bigger rationale for voting McCain. Perfect strategy by
McCain, given Obama's big mistake of not tapping Hillary as his choice. I
think the election is over... all hail President McCain, our Republican
overlord. I can't believe the Democrats have blown another Presidential
election.
********
Jason, those disgruntled Clinton supporters were mad and said they
would consider McCain. And I'm sure that nearly 20% did give some
thought to the guy, but I'm just as sure that the majority of that
percentage were heading firmly toward Obama before last night's speech.
And after that speech, I'm sure the rest went too.
I was one of them.
Like you, I was sure that we, as Democrats, had taken the party too far to
the left to win the center.
After all, wasn't McCain a moderate Republican? Wasn't he a Maverick?
Was he going to pick Lieberman as a running mate? Was he going to
move to the center? Would he smartly pick a "purple" state's governor
such as Minnesota's or Florida's?
No, McCain picked a staunch conservative from a small state who
happened to be a woman (which will piss off more Hillary supporters than
win them).
So I REALLY do think so.

Jodi what about Matalin and Carville? I always wondered how that marriage worked out so long with the intensity of Carville.

"expect the tears and the allauelahs"
If they're being naive then it's because things are so desperate these days. An Obama victory offers hope. That just about anyone in America can make it, even to the top. A McCain victory would reflect the truth. That kings are born, not made.
