You guys are so boned if only because there are enough people in the US who will vote against Obama because he is black and enough women who will vote only for the first woman VP, policy be damned.

I think that aspect will probably be a wash.  I'm guessing for every person who wouldn't vote for someone because they were black or a woman there is some one on the other end of the spectrum who will vote for them purely because they are black or a woman.

I think this election will be won/lost for political reasons, not racial or sexual ones.

Again I will ask this:

Republicans on here, sell me the McCain / Palin ticket, don't mention what you don't like about Obama, tell me why we will be better off with McCain/Palin in office.

Comedian Doug Benson had a funny line recently, when I heard him on a local morning radio show. He said something along the lines of: "Someone asked me recently who I'm going to vote for president, and why? I said, to answer the first part of your question, that's none of your business, that's a personal choice and I don't have to share that with anyone. And as for the second part, because he's black."

I just googled Palin and it came up with this picture

Oops.  Looks like Bill Clinton will be crossing parties with his vote. :P

Democrats thought Hillary was capable of being president, not a token woman. Big Difference.

Jodi, so you honestly believe that she's nothing more than a token?  You don't think she's a smart, strong, capable woman?  To be nothing more than a token it would mean she didn't have those qualities.  On the other hand, if she does have those qualties, how can she just be a token?

Being a woman is most definitely a part of why she was selected, but that doesn't make her a token.

Token or not, from the peanut gallery distance, Palin as VP looks like a cold calculated move, much like Biden for Obama. Picking an old white guy for V.P. offsets the experience angle, but it also entirely undercuts the message of change. Dick Cheney alone is a demonstration of just how powerful a V.P. can be given the right circumstances and having an old school career politician at your back may reinforce the mantra of "out with the old in with the old".

Palin on the other hand is a clutch for Hilary's side of the democratic party,as well as an attempt to offset Mcain's age and the ongoing perception of old white guys running the world. She is evidence that Mcain, on the surface, is in fact a maverick because he was willing to do what Obama couldn't or wouldn't-have a woman as V.P.

This is kind of like watching a chess match using those gigantic pieces that have to be man-handled across the board, only the stakes are unimaginable and every decision is wrong on both sides.

I'd say every decision is right and wrong on both sides.  That's the problem with making decisions.  Someone will absolutely despise you for them.

How else are they supposed to pick a candidate?  Beer and dice?  "Cold and calculating" for the win.

Ideologically, by the way, Palin seems like the perfect republican.  Whether that's good or bad depends on what you think of the Republican platform; but I haven't yet seen a valid argument about why she isn't a reasonable VP candidate for McCain.

Catching a small part of Obama's speech last night he mentioned that he would raise the salaries of teachers.

When did the president have the power to set the salaries of teachers?

A McCain victory would reflect the truth. That kings are born, not made.

Really?  He wasn't born into money  He got his money later in his life.  Obama wasn't born into money either  But how much money did he make last year?  I guess Obama and McCain are both kings?

The simple answer is I vote for who matches my views and character the most. McCain is far closer to my beliefs, and now that I have spent the day learning more about Palin, I like her even more than McCain.

Because the republicans have been bitching forever about why Obama would be a bad president because he lacks experience. You can discount her being only a VP but SpiroT Agnew  was only a VP too, we saw how that turned out, wait most of you weren't born then and most likely don't know who he is, god I'm old.

but I haven't yet seen a valid argument about why she isn't a reasonable VP candidate for McCain.

She is a perfect republican, pro NRA, Anti Choice, anti Gay rights and she wants to have creationism taught in schools, a governor,  is not an expert in the laws of the land. Sounds alot like Bush to me.
