He's closer than a hearbeat, Jodi. He's got it in his pocket as we speak. Hopefully not his hip pocket. He could sit on it. Course, in his front pocket he could bump it against the sink or poke it with his keys if he's not careful. We only have to worry about Sarah getting her hands on buttons if McCain croaks, assuming they get elected.

It makes me feel good that's she's aboard because SNL will have some great material and probably be really funny this season. People have been asking what the VP job is for quite a while. The job has been a punchline for as long as I can remember, so if she wants to crack wise about it, let her. Maybe she'll have more time with her kids if she's got an easy gig like VP, instead of running a state governent. I suspect she will keep herself busy though. If she ever becomes President, I hope she's had enough time in training to be a good one. Six months ought to do it.

Hopefully she won't let the baby play with the red button and accidentally nuke Russia.

Robin why do you -and others- insist upon missing the point? If you wanted a car and your parents came home and said, "Tomorrow we're buying you a car." You'd scream, "Oh. I love you! You're a god send. Thank you. Your words are music to my ears!" If they came home and said, "We can't afford a car, but we will match you dollar for dollar if you work and save for a car. You may not be as thrilled as by the former, but still, they'd look pretty good in your eyes.

Now if they said, "No. You will NEVER own a car. We won't get you one and we wouldn't let you have one even if you could." I doubt you'd call them 'inspiring' or 'messiahs.' -It comes down to someone articulating what you want to hear. Form follows function.

Some people like the idea of going around the globe kicking ass. It makes them feel good. Keeping faggots out of schools, out of the military, suits them perfectly fine. Some people want to make a LOT of money and they want to keep it. All of it. And they're none too fussy who they stomp over to do so. Some people want prayer in school. No abortions. No sex ed. No Darwinism. Or they want vouchers to send their kids to better schools, either because they lack the above or lack students who happen to be... exotic. That's the new word. Exotic. Some people want to bomb Iraq, Iran, hell maybe even North Korea as well. Some people believe man has dominion over the earth, and as such it is immutable and perfect. No global warming stuff. No worries over species extinction. Just kill it, pump it, eat it and use it.

When a leader comes along and articulates these ideas and ideals, they get labeled "great communicators" and such. And if you're like me and none of these things are on the laundry list... you just don't 'get it.' Great communicator, huh? Great asshole by me... But then, that's just me.

Well, at this point in time a whole lot of people want us out of Iraq. They believe there is global warming induced by man and they want to prevent it. They like the idea that their gay sons, cousins and brothers can get joint health care, share property, join the armed forces. They would rather have the government serve a social function than be a moral nanny or Ass whomper to the world. Spend money on roads, bridges, schools -And so on.

And when a person comes along and articulates their ideas, ideals with clarity and force, they are labeled "inspiring." The form follows function.

No one is betting Obama is some human being other and separate from human beings. It is not that he is above fault or failure or corruption. It is, as he said, "not about me." It is about being the perfect conduit of the wishes of one's party. -The better one is at doing just that (Reagan) the better they like you. The worse you are at it, (Bush), the less they like you. It doesn't make you a god. But it might make people believe you are a godsend.

Most essential is to articulate what and where it is exactly one wants. Then it's a matter of getting there. I've heard here that McCain isn't Bush. That his daughter is hot. And a fair amount of stuff that they don't like or trust Obama. -What I have yet to hear is an articulation of how McCain is "Change." Nor have I heard any articulation of "Change" in or from the Republican party. At best, it would seem to be a change in body. New guy, got his own penis. His own butt hole. Check. But what is it that Republicans want from this new butt hole that is any different from what's been articulated in the past??? War, patriotism, fighting an enemy? God, we did all that in Vietnam and look what good it did us? Nothing. Ban abortions? We're back to coat hangers. Prayer in school? Well, it makes you feel better... Gays aren't going to vanish, but perhaps you'll sleep better knowing they are permanent second class citizens??? More deregulation??? Privatize social security? Bomb Iran back to the stone age? End welfare? Great, more crime, more prisons. We'll pay more to house and feed people in cells than we ever would trying to help people out of poverty. And if you think it's scary enough driving through midtown any city now.... !

I look across what they want. What they've DONE the last 8 years being in control... I see no house on a hill glinting in heavenly sunlight.

We can do better. Hell, I could do better. Hell, a radioactive chimp can do better than the past Republican controlled congress and its president.

So I'll ask again, with listening ears on... What's new??? Being a maverick isn't new. You can't eat it. You can't spend it. You can't make it public policy.

As of tonight, all I see is Pat Dobson throwing a boner over 3 Christian Supe slots... And Sarah Palin happy to help him get his ummm...

Anything else, people?

Well Chris, it would seem I'm not the only person having problems reading:

Did
you
see
her
comment?

What
did
you
think
when
you
saw
it?

Not that you have to answer. At this point, it's rhetorical...

Anyone got a handle on that "new" thing coming from the Republicans in O8?

Yes. I saw her comments. Perhaps you'd like to watch them again and pay better attention. She was commenting on the undefined role of the VP. She has an important job as Governor and would rather keep that than sit around waiting for the President to die or break a tie vote in the Senate for the next 4 or 8 years(what most VPs did before 1953). Since she accepted the job it seems likely that McCain told her she would be an important part of his administration. As I've said before the VP has only two duties. Presiding over the Senate and replacing the President. Anything other than that is up to the President.

With stuff like that, it doesn't always matter if its true. Its whether people believe its true.

See "Obama is a Muslim" for details.

I don't want to sound like I'm apologizing for a Republican; I think they're directly to blame for the most serious problems of the country. But so what if Palin was claiming her grandkid for her own? If anything, it shows she is a self-sacrificing parent.
