Knut, I would also automatically pick the one to the left, since Moderaterna here still are to the left of Obama/Clinton. But here I am very right-wing. So if the American "socialists" are elected in the US I am very happy. If the sociealist win the elections here I am everything but happy.

I know it's ANCIENT history, but does no one here remember a story about a NON-candidate, FORMER-senator named John Edwards, where all the media outlets were terrified to report on it because they lacked hard-evidence; and the right-wing excoriated them over it?!?!  The right letting them no in no uncertain terms that the mainstream media had an OBLIGATION to run with this National Enquirer-led story, based on the fact that enough had begun to be written about it in the blogosphere that it was now "impossible" to ignore without being seen as covering it up in favor of a pro-Democrat bias.  When the major news outlets DID begin to report on it, FOX.com was first.

Reporting as possible fact, a tabloid, blogosphere story with no hard evidence to back it up... the The Sarah Palin/Teen daughter & baby story is PERFECT... I expect Fox to be first this time too.

The big difference is the Edwards story was true.

Christopher,

Miss the point much?

(P.S., I should note that just like in the Edwards case, a simple DNA test would put to rest aaaaaaaaaaaany questions about this Palin/baby story.  I am going to just assume all you fair-minded Republicans want Gov. Palin and her baby to undergo this test as much as you wanted Sen. Edwards and his alleged baby to undergo the same test?)

Your point seems to be that you want untrue stories to be reported as news.

Having the test would just be giving more fuel to the rumour. If it isn't true, she should just ignore it.

Christopher,

My point was that during the EARLY days of the Edwards story, the right was insistent that instead of hard-facts, the multitude of accusations abounding in the blogoshere and in a single tabloid was SUFFICIENT to begin reporting the story as hard news.  It was a chicken & the egg conundrum.  The Republicans, because we were talking about a Democrat, decided they wanted that journalistic bar set MUCH lower.  Sauce for the goose?

Also, since we're on the topic, HOW do you know that the story is untrue?  It wasn't until the mainstream media started heatedly investigating Edwards and putting the screws to him did he finally come out and admit to it.  Until then there was NO proof (people are STILL clamoring for the DNA test).

And, the Palin campaign just announced that her unwed daughter is currently 5-months pregnant.  IF we were just going tabloid, some people could certainly be forgiven for saying some very unkind thing about the Pain family's values and past behavior.  BUT, as I made clear, I DO NOT advocate lowering the bar to tabloid levels.

David,

By your standard, the baby in the Edwards case ISN'T his and since it ISN'T, the mother SHOULD refuse (as she has done) the DNA test.  Cool.

(P.S. I don't buy the Edwards denial about paternity ONE BIT; but then I like to think of myself as fair & balanced.)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Where did I say I wanted Edwards tested? Can I have your mother tested to prove you're her child? I mean if she is then she should'n't mind being tested.

Christopher,

That's cool that you don't.  A lot of people were suggesting such a test be done.  I'm glad you never ever wanted him to be subjected to that test.  Hey!!  Wait a minute, where did you ever say you "DIDN'T" want him to be tested!?!?

Don't forget that Edwards himself claimed he wanted the test.
