Not you, though, Joel.  No sarcasm for you.  I just don't like you.

Why?

Because I have a terrible weakness - I can not stand being condescended to - and you seemed to go out of your way to do it a number of times in short period of time, and I decided I had had enough.

Perhaps we crossed each other at the wrong time or something.

Could be. Perhaps we just hit each others hot buttons. I readily admit to being guilty of occasionally condescending posts. But, interestingly enough, I don't like it either...but I often think your posts are the condescending ones!  So sometimes, I felt I was responding "in kind." And I sometimes will post in the heat of passion (or perhaps a few Anchor Steams into the night) and be a bit more aggressive than needed.  I didn't think I was being that bad...but maybe I was (I've been wrong before). So I apologize. Start over?

I mightily hope those two particular lies can be ultimately lain at the feet of Rumsfeld. Resignation was too good for him. He's definitely the worst of the bunch, in my opinion.

If Joel has Republican views and is voting for Obama, and voted for him in the primary, he must be as mixed up as Joe Lieberman!

Well dammit, these parties are confusing me!

Here's my story: former Republican, current independent.

Finally lost faith in the Republican party after several years of a ballooning defecit and unchecked spending (something which NEVER should have happened with a Republican president and a Republican led congress right?); no WMDs in Iraq; the surrender of the party to the religious right, etc.

Socially, I'm much more in the Democrat side (to an extent). Pro-abortion, pro-separation of church and state, pro sex-ed, pro gay-rights, etc., etc.

Fiscally, I'm more on the Republican side (at least what Repulicans are supposed to be like)...smaller government, low taxes/curtailed spending, etc., etc.

My favorite movies are Empire Strikes Back, Rocky and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Joel - I likewise apologize - we got off to a good start - something just went awry.  I've had a LOT on my mind lately - so my posts haven't been what I hoped they could have been.

Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark are two of my favorites, too.  Rocky?  Ehh... my dad keep trying to explain why I should love it, but... I have to say - watching it and watching Balboa - together, without the other chapters?  Makes a pretty interesting thing.  Though, having said that, my childhood was shaped by Rocky III - Mr T saying "SHUT UP OLD MAN!" - my father and I say that affectionately to each other constantly... I don't know.

Anyway - your clarification on the issues makes perfect sense to me.  You sound like... well... most of my friends and family.  (And our Governator...)   Were you pleased with Obama's pledge to lower taxes?

Yes, I was.  I was also pleased that he hit McCain on main point that I think is the best one against him...his decision-making and temperament.  I think that's a very relevant charge. I also really like his "we're better than that" theme.

Though, having said that, my childhood was shaped by Rocky III - Mr T saying "SHUT UP OLD MAN!" - my father and I say that affectionately to each other constantly... I don't know.

Rocky III is probably #4 on my list. Mr. T is SUCH a great villain with such great lines. "Prediction? Pain."  "I'm going to hurt him. I'm going to crucify him...real bad."  "Apollo WHO? Oh, you talking about that old fool Apollo Creed?"   Great, underrated movie.  Ah, well...I guess we're in the wrong section for this subject :-)

Mike, Question about Obama's lower taxes plan... where are the breaks - in other words, how much would someone be making towards the top of his cuts? I have heard about these cuts, but not much actual info... wouldn't do a lot of good if he decided a household making $40k was 'wealthy' and didn't need cuts.

Pete

Pete - sorry I don't have the information on hand, but my understanding was well over $100K.

Oh!  Awesome link Michael - I was off - I guess $227K is the point where you stop being cut.
