Well, what a lovely little convention we're having. I almost thought I had the wrong channel. Thought it was a Crypt Convention. And yes, I do believe I saw Methusela hanging out in the crowd with a couple of ol' bitties. The place looked a little empty, though. Must have had trouble parking all the hover rounds. Did you notice, everyone seemed to wearing a tad too much white powder? The lights weren't all that glaring. Hiding a wrinkles perhaps? Word to the wise, when it turns that gray, don't pluck. Run with it, baby. Wear it proud.

Oh there were some nice video clips. Flags are nice. A few scenes of devestation from 9-11. Perhaps Osama Bin Laden filmed those??? He's been making home movies for awhile now.

I will admit, the John McCain story was rather touching. You get those in wars. My father fought in a war. Watched good men die. Watched good men prove their valor with such dignity, selflessness and courage. Many of them liberal. He was a liberal, and a war hero. So it was odd to see our Commander in Chief -from his place in the White House no less- stoop to a moment of glaring name calling and refer to half of all the American people as "The Angry Left."

I guess he's forgotten who pays his paycheck.

But then, this is business as usual. No one in the crowd complained. Perhaps they even cheered that point, I will have to check the re-runs. But that line made the point. Whatever "Maverick" line you want to use to give the illusion of 'new direction', this is but a crowd that believes half the American people don't matter. They cut, they run. They hate America. They whine. Everything they do, say and believe is wrong. And everything "we" aged, old, white guys do and say and believe say is right. And those very wrong people?  They are just so angry.

It's interesting when you look back over the last 50 yrs. or so. When the Civil Rights Movement was in full swing, the retort was just the same: All those ANGRY black people! "They're so angry..."

And when young white gays protested against Reagan, again the reaction: "They're so angry."

And so it is today with another group, "They're so ANGRY."

This is said, not in a questioning way. It's not as if these people are at all interested in reflecting on, or reasoning out the root cause of this anger. They don't question because frankly those people, all these people

DON'T
COUNT.

Nothing about them, their positions or complaints are of relevance. They are quite simply: permanently wrong. The niggers want a hand out. The fags live in sin. And the Liberals... well, everything about them is  just half a step away from Socialism, or Communism.

Such is the legacy of the Republican Party 2008: A back hand dismissal from the President of All the United States to half the citizens.

But wait! There's hope! These are after all, kind people. Good people. And the message of the convention is: Republicans are offering an olive branch. A new messiah. A man more stern and noble than any other man could be. His unmatchable valor and "maverick" streak (he's not a carbon copy of the rest of us...) has stepped to center stage to carry the mantel for a brave Nation thrust into war by the enemy. (Ya gotta get the fear part in there somewhere...)

None are half as brave. None half as bold. None can match his iron will, forged in death camps of the Communist horde.  He will lead us forward in these times of War. And with him all victory is at hand. Praise be to Jesus!

And what about the rest of us? No, not you angry people. You don't !#$%#$@ count. -The good people, independents. Democrats who sometimes vote conservative. For you good people, he will show his Maverick side. He will quick. He will be sly. He is fresh (as one can be at 70.)

With him at the helm, we will bring CHANGE America needs. "You know, change things back  the way they should be. You know, that Republican convention platform printed up when Reagan was in office? We're running with that one. You can't improve on perfect."

On Today, Vera had Rudi on the ropes asking about Palin, seriously could Palin be any more of a train wreck. The vetting process was so well done they interviewed her a day before she agreed to be VP. That is very scary. Is this a sign of how they will handle other issues?

Oh, I did enjoy that Prick story, Al - saw it on Countdown, had a good chuckle.

I also dig these clips I found on Fark yesterday:  http://cgi.fark.com/cgi/fark/vidplayer.pl?IDLink=3844557

I'm not sure if you are describing yourself as one of those people, but I'm curious... how do you (or the "many people" you describe) think that Obama will "destroy this country"?

With a Democratic run Congress and Obama, he would be able to enact every single socialist program he wants.  We'd end up becoming a socialist nation, something I'm extremely opposed to.

Now, if we had a Republican run Congress I'd be a lot more likely to vote for Obama rather than McCain because there would be sufficient checks in place to prevent it.

I never want to see this country run from either extreme.  Whichever party is in control of Congress, I would want a President that was moderate or the opposite party.

Wow -- good thing the Republicans never ran congress while the George
W. Bush administration was in the White House.

As for me, the memory of nearly eight years of a Republican-run Congress and Presidency remains fresh in my mind... and it's definitely time for someone else. If the Democrats take control for the next 4-8 years, they cannot possibly do any worse. Like the saying goes, "once you've hit bottom the only way to go is up."

Wow Al, what a good time to decide to take you off ignore, though after scrolling back some pages, not sure how long it will last.  :P

That's why I never voted for Bush.  I haven't voted Republican in over 20 years, until this election.

Hey Scott! Welcome back to the full discussion! Good to see you. (Or good
to be seen by you, as the case may be.)

Anyway, what I was at there was: Good thing the Republicans never ran
Congress while Dubya was in office, or he would have destroyed America.
