"Saying we need to stop spending that much on foreign oil, not aid."

That makes more sense.

I'll be interested in the polling data once it catches up to the end of the RNC.

Prior to the DNC, Obama had an average lead of 1.4 points.

After the polls had caught up to the end of the DNC Obama had an average lead of 6.9 points.

A few of the polls have data for part of the RNC which has shrunk Obama's average lead to 3.8 points which is still 2.4 points ahead of his average prior to the DNC.

Obama should release campaign ads showing Palin/McCain with the tune "We're on the road to nowhere" with lyrics changed to "We're on the bridge to nowhere"

After the polls had caught up to the end of the DNC Obama had an average lead of 6.9 points.

Republicans were saying that it should have been more i.e. "I can't believe we're not losing by more"

They said that because post convention bounces have been much higher in the past. Since 1964 the average bounce has been 10%.

As a McCain supporter, I thought his speech was kind of blah. It certainly wasn't a disaster, but it didn't light a fire the same way Palin's speech did the previous night.

The best part was that McCain came across as humble. Quite honestly, humility isn't something that comes naturally to very many politicians (I mean,  you have to have a pretty high opinion of yourself if you believe you are qualified to be President of the United States.) So that part was effective.

However, I have to agree with those who said he dwelled on his POW experiences too long. Don't get me wrong -- I have nothing but admiration for his heroism and sacrifice. He gave more to his country than he will ever get in return. But talking about it so much made it seem like a plea for sympathy, I thought.

Having said that, no one has ever accused McCain of being a great orator. I think he'll do much better in the debates -- that's more his environment.

Some lyrics from the song 'Raisin McCain' that played on his exit.

"And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Well he got shot down in a Vietnam town
Fighting for the red, white and blue
And they locked him up in the Hanoi Hilton
Thinking they could break him in two

He stayed strong, stayed extra long
‘Til they let all the other boys out
Now we’ve got a real man with an American plan
We’re going to put him in the big White House"

Needs more MC Rove.

What style are the upcoming debates? Moderator or town hall?

Moderator. Obama wouldn't agree to town hall.

Thanks for that link, Michael.

The median 'bounce' is 5%, not the 10% that was suggested here earlier.
