As a McCain supporter, I thought his speech was kind of blah. It certainly wasn't a disaster, but it didn't light a fire the same way Palin's speech did the previous night.
The best part was that McCain came across as humble. Quite honestly, humility isn't something that comes naturally to very many politicians (I mean, you have to have a pretty high opinion of yourself if you believe you are qualified to be President of the United States.) So that part was effective.
However, I have to agree with those who said he dwelled on his POW experiences too long. Don't get me wrong -- I have nothing but admiration for his heroism and sacrifice. He gave more to his country than he will ever get in return. But talking about it so much made it seem like a plea for sympathy, I thought.
Having said that, no one has ever accused McCain of being a great orator. I think he'll do much better in the debates -- that's more his environment.
