This remains sad.

We're a month out from the election.

We've got one presidential and one vp debate behind us.

And still, neither ticket has convinced me to vote for them.

Oh, McCain and Palin have convinced me not to vote for them (which, I guess, means they've convinced me to vote for Obama).  But, as it's been in the 20 years I've been old enough to vote, no candidate has inspired me to vote for him.  Rather, I'm again left voting against one of 'em for the candidate that stands the best chance of keeping him out of office.

I deliberately didn't watch the debate so as not to sully the Tina Fey in my
mind's eye...

I stilll HATE these so called debates. They are really joint press conferences... in which neither side HAS to answer the questions.

Bull.

I quite agree and I think much of the blame for that can be laid at the feet of the moderators.

It's funny I was just talking to a woman at my sons school and she is a solid republican. She said "Now all the democrats can shut up because last night they saw how well Palin handled herself and how she would be a great president." I of course could not let that sentence stand unanswered in the universe.

So I responded: "Look Palin is an ex-sportcaster , she knows how to read script looking into the camera. Just because she can do a good job reporting that someone threw the game winning touchdown pass, doesn't mean she could throw a game winning touchdown pass. Just because she can read script off of some cue cards, does not mean she is compotent to be President."

Howard hits the nail on the head. These "debates" are nothing of the sort. They're really an exercise in seeing how effectively someone can say nothing of substance and yet sound like they're saying something important.

I like McCain, but I will not vote for a ticket with Palin as V.P. McCain, as crass as it is to say, could very likely die during his term - and America cannot have another leader who looks to the Bible first and the Constitution second when making decisions for the country. We simply cannot have it. Bush II has made enough in-roads into making this country a theocracy already - the bleeding must stop!

"The Senate measure has changed my position from 'No' to 'Heck, no,' " said Texas Democrat Lloyd Doggett. "With the Senate amendment, the bailout has gone from bad to worse, $105 billion more in public debt worse."House debate on revamped Bill

Stick to your guns, Lloyd.

This election has been really sad for one reason, I used to respect McCain until I saw him after the primary when he was running against Bush. And even after they attacked McCain in the dirtiest way, he went onto Air Force one and talked to the press about his support for Bush, he looked like a man that had sold his soul to the devil. I am sure the Bush camp said, "you come out and support Bush we will help you in 08"  I think the Palin issue is another way he sold out his beliefs to become President. He seems like a shell of a man now.

I found the picture I was talking about, look at W and look at McCain

Nice try William, but when you say, "She's not at the debate to spout McCain's positions; she's there to tell us her own" then the Biden has to be held to the same standard.   If that's what Palin is supposed to do then the same should be expected of Biden.  Period.

And just because Obama can organize some community events doesn't make him competent to be President.  He has no more qualifications that Palin does.  It's sad when the VP on the ticket is more qualified for the job than the head of the ticket.

Yeah, it's a shame - McCain seems like a nice enough guy - I like hearing him talk, and I like some of his personality traits...

I don't think he's got good judgement, and I don't think his policies are best for America, but I think he believes in America and wants to put America first, at least his version of it.

So, I wouldn't ever vote for him, but I enjoy him serving as a Senator.  He does good work, provides good balance. I'd probably enjoy going to dinner with the guy.  Going to the movies with him.  I just wouldn't vote for him.

So, it's a shame ... Originally, I was just FOR Obama - but now, with Palin on the ticket, and all his cheap politicing, mis-steps, blunders, and putting aside his core beliefs to side with Bush - well, I'm not just FOR Obama - I'm AGAINST McCain.

Shame...

That's crazy, Scott.

Biden was being held to the standard that William suggested, period.
At least until Palin's handlers became paranoid that she wouldn't be able to
stand up to it herself and had the rules changed for her.

I think Andrew Hess was on to something...
