Palin's preacher is harmless.  Wright is militant.  So yes, I don't worry about harmless crackpots, but I do worry about someone who is able to rally large numbers of people.

-----------------------------

What the fuck?  Wright's a typical black preacher in the heart of Chicago, not a weapons-hoarding psycho in the mountains of Montana.  What's he rallying them to do besides contribute to the building fund?

You weren't frightened by James Brown's scene in The Blues Brothers, were you?

Scott, I started this post 4 times and deleted what I'd written over and over again, trying to find a polite, reasoned response to what you've written.

It can't be done.

Equating the black experience in the United States to someone being handed lemons has got to be the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard.

Question for the Group:

Over the course of this thread, has anyone changed their mind about who they support?

>>Repubs spend tax money like drunken sailors, and Clinton delivered a mighty surplus.<< Yes, I agree but not really to the second half. Republicans are still evil and Democrats are still Angles.
Come on you think one party is working just for you eh? Ok we'll see...

>>Gray Davis recalled from office, claiming he messed up the budget<< Well he didn't help - recall the California electricity crisis of 2000-2001. But in fairness, being Gov during the dot com bubble blow up, well, he just didn't have a chance.

But on to the rest... again, if you want to keep up the old game of Rep vs Dem so be it and bend over and ignore the rest of this post.

Still here ok:
State spending in CA has been completely irresponsible. The budget for 2002-2003 is $100 billion. That was a 44% increase in from 1998 and According to the Public Policy Institute of California:

California’s budget has grown by 44 percent since FY 1997-98 due largely to increasing income tax revenues (specifically, receipts from stock options and capital gains). Revenues from stock options and capital gains peaked in FY 2000-01 at $17.6 billion and accounted for 25 percent of general fund revenues. The following year, half as much revenue was raised from these sources, with the state receiving an estimated $8.6 billion in revenues. These revenues are not expected to return to peak levels in the foreseeable future.

Those of us that live here know that many projects suddenly stopped, roads, homes, condos etc. Some have still not finished.

A pretty good case so far, but I haven’t even touched on the real problem yet. The primary reason spending doesn’t get cut is that all the big ticket items are sacred cows. No one in Sacramento has the balls to even suggest touching them. On a Federal level the budget buster is social spending–Medicare and Social Security. Here in California, it’s education.

No one will ever entertain the idea of cutting education because it’s so ripe for political exploitation as “selling our kids down the river”. Please. With all due respect, $126 billion in debt is financial slavery. And that’s exactly what the next generation will be saddled with. At a minimum.

To be fair, when this thread started, there were more candidates. Clinton
supporters pretty much had to change their minds.

"Once in office, as I said, they'll both shift left.  McCain, back to being moderate and Obama just to the left of the moon."

How do you know this?

It's pointless to debate which preacher is worse, I think.  But to dismiss Pastor Kroon of Palin's church as "harmless" is naive.  The views his church espouses help to perpetuate ongoing bigotry, and contribute to a climate that leads to hate crimes like the Shepard tragedy.

Also, Obama denounced Wright. Palin would never do such a thing.

Others just whine and moan thinking it's not fair and that everyone should just give them lemonade since they don't want to have to actually put in the effort to make their own. = We are a nation of whiners. The fundamentals of the economy are strong.

Way to stand by your man. Winky, winky.

As a black man, I find it fascinating, sobering and somewhat stomach turning to hear conservatives speak of the world as if it is a level playing field. And anyone asking for 'change' is either asking for a handout, special rights, or reverse discrimination.

They roll out of bed privileged with so many blessings. It is simply assumed 'everyone' enjoys them...

As a heterosexual, you can take a trip anywhere in the world today or tomorrow, and not have to leave your heart behind you. Just be yourself in all your glory. And if by chance you meet the love of your life over there, out there, you have every means to making that pairing a perfect union. For a gay man or woman, travel means checking your heart at the border. Because no matter how perfect that mate might be, there's no way you can bring them home to share your life.
(A fate that happened to a friend of mine...) Just one of the many, very small ways the playing field isn't level.

'Piglips' on the other hand is beholden to a crop of people who to their dying breath would work against my friend bringing his true love to the U.S. -But what do you care? You're sitting fat and sassy. Winky. Winky.

They're "harrrrrrmmmmmless." Oh, yeah.

-To your well being perhaps.

Ironically, in the past eight years its the Conservatives who have done more than anyone else to level the playing field. Because bankers now are now applying for food stamps. The guy who serves your next McHappy Meal could be a PhD or a JD.
