Well, at least there's a medical explanation for how vicious and bitter he comes across.
I was thinking about that this very morning -- I didn't watch the entire debate my oldest is sick so a lot of the evening was spent comforting her -- but what I saw (and it maybe just my read of him) was a man who is conflicted by what he is and what he has been portrayed as. John McCain is his own man. I think he's at heart a decent man, yet by clever manipulation by Obama's campaign, and ill conceived positioning by the McCain campaign, the "real" John McCain, the one we all loved in 2000, is being hidden or obscured. I don't say that to excuse McCain or explain away some of the bitterness that came through -- but I do think its affected him. Unfortunately, since some of this is self-inflicted it also raises questions about his judgment (which are already out there because of the Palin pick).
I heard Biden say on GMA this morning that he'd like to debate Palin again. GMA said they had offered both candidates a platform but the McCain camp had refused thus far.
