How would anything you said constitute an historical nadir, Al? You wrote it, I'm asking.

Huh? How is a low point not historical? All the ones you mentioned, are
they not historical?

When a nation reaches a low point it makes history.

To be nitpicky, the nadir should refer to the lowest point, not just a low point.

That's the point isn't it, Al?  The fact is that America is NOT at its nadir, as you originally supported.  You've said as much, yourself.

Do I have to remind you of the definition of nadir as the "the lowest point?"  You know, directly opposite the zenith?

" Obama's coming in at a point where we are at a nadir - he'll be put to the ultimate test - everything needs attention and fixing - now is the exact time we need a guy like Barack Obama!"

When we're talking about that bold portion of that statement, I wouldn't term referring to the definition of nadir as being nitpicking or overly pedantic.

Arguing semantics is fun, isn't it.

Yes, technically the term 'nadir' means the lowest point. But it gets used
much more flexibly than that all the time. "A nadir" is common and
accepted usage, as is contextual usage - such as "we're at a nadir in recent
history" or "X has not had a nadir like this since..."

Then you, Mike and myself all agree.  America is not at an historical nadir, and stating that it was is nothing but an example of what Mike called hyperbole on his part.

Nice doing business with you, Al.

Now, Mike, how are you're quoting me?  here's what I asked:

"But then, that's how you ALWAYS react to being shown for empty generalizations, isn't, Mike?"

You didn't appreciate this question?

Well, no one likes being slandered.  And, you did say "ALWAYS", as you yourself show, so, it was a quote.

And I said "hyperboyle", so that's a quote.

And now Howard Mackie will come in and tsk tsk us for behaving poorly.

Who else is bored with this pissing contest?

See - look - we agree.  It's not at "the" nadir (lowest point) - it's in a bad spot.

I have done no business with you, Michael. No goods or services were
exchanged.

Nor do we agree.

America is indeed at an historical nadir. Not hyperbole. Just a point
of view.

Yours is different.

Edited because I can't believe I forgot to put the 'n' on 'an' in
front of 'historical'.
