Not to be rude....or interupt flow of conversation. I just wanted to get off
my chest that POLLS of any kind are just silly and it is frustrating how the
know nothings on television have any effect on the "masses" in influencing
"popular" thinking.   More and more during this election I am seeing the
Wikipedia mentality RULE and I begin banging my head on the screen.

   :)

p.s. Nothing will change but the names and your NEW taxes.

My problem with term limits is, why should we punish ourselves and get rid of good elected officials because some people are lazy and keep voting in, horrible politicans.

I agree with Kevin.  I'd rather they make the President, House and Senate positions all single 6 year terms.  If there is never a chance for re-election then the politicians can do what's right rather than what the lobbyists want them to do to get re-elected.  It will never happen though.

Sorry - not sure why I put Iowa on that list.  Obama owns Iowa.

I think about it, as if I ran a business and I would not want to have to retrain new people all the time, if I have a bad employee I fire them, thus vote them out. In Indiana we have 2 good senators, Lugar has been in forever, but he has been an excellent elder statesman, very effective and a good man. I would hate to see his experience go. (he is a republican) Demand more from those you elect, hold them accountable all year thru.

So... wait - I never pay attention to the details - can we quote bits of speach or not?

Here's a link to a pretty zingeriffic Obama speach: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/08/obama-slams- mccain-debate-response/

Here are the key quotes quoted in that link:  (mods delete if that's how that rule works)

“Here in Indianapolis and all across America, you’re seeing your hours getting cut or realizing that you can’t pay every bill that’s sitting on the kitchen counter,” he said. “You know back in 1980 Ronald Reagan asked the electorate whether you were better off than you were four years ago, at the pace things are going right now you’re going to have ask whether you’re better off than you were four weeks ago.”

“Senator McCain’s campaign announced last week that they plan to 'turn the page' on the discussion about our economy and spend the final weeks of this election attacking me instead. He and Governor Palin are out there saying all kinds of stuff,” he said in a not so subtle nod to Palin’s recent comments that Obama associates with “terrorists.” “I can take four more weeks of John McCain’s attacks, but the American people can’t take four more years of John McCain’s George Bush policies.”

Obama ought to use that "are you better off than you were four weeks ago" line in his closing remarks at the final debate.

The trouble is that not everyone would be motivated by the desire to "do what's right."  I imagine a lot of politicians would feel like they didn't need to bother trying to keep campaign promises.  They could promise the moon and then do whatever they wanted because they are out in 6 years anyway regardless.  Re-election creates some accountability as far as doing what you say you'll do.  Without it the type of cronyism and enacting of legislation to benefit self and friends that has characterized the Bush administration could become even worse.

At any rate, if I could wave my wand and change one thing about the American political system, I would choose elimination of the ridiculous electoral college over term limits.
