Neil, that piece almost sounds like a pilot for a television show.

Come to think of it, Palin's level of popularity almost seems like her admirers think she's a character on a television show. I know that I can easily imagine her and McCain doing a whole "Mary and Lou" routine.

("You've got spunk. I hate spunk!")

I also noticed John McCain's made oddly conflicting assertions during Tuesday's debate ("I know how to reach across the aisle and get things done", verus "I'm not very popular within my own party, let alone with the Democrats"). He seems to be claiming that he's willing to take on anybody, but that everyone's eager to line up and help him get stuff done.

"Tragically, the U.S. response to the 1998 embassy bombings was wholly inadequate...Too many Clinton Administration officials refused to act effectively to counter the dangers posed by al Qaeda."
--John McCain, August 7, 2008

"You could say, 'Look, is this guy, Laden, really the bad guy that's depicted?' Most of us have never heard of him before."
--John McCain, September, 1998, to Mother Jones, following Clinton's strikes on al Qaeda camps

Hey. Just wanted to join in. Since I gave up arguing with Scott about things that don't really matter to me I'm feeling lonely and left out.

By the way, nice quotes Tom. Reminds me of all the quotes by Hannity about what a great job Clinton did in response to that only to slam him years later by saying he didn't do enough.

William is a good dude.

Hey - The New Yorker just endorsed Obama - I got the lastest issue yesterday, and they have a great editorial explaining their choice.  Totally worth picking up.

Depicting him in a room filled with marijuana smoke, building pipe bombs with his pal Ayers. At the tender age of eight, of course.

He's done this for quite a while, actually. McCain likes to portray himself as the guy everyone hates because he is so mavericky, but by the same token he wants everyone to think he's Mr. Bipartisen Legislation. The two really aren't compatible in my opinion.

Some interesting data on the race factor and voting. Gallup reports that
there is a slightly higher percentage who will vote for Obama because of his
race compared to those who will not.
