but I think the Palin bump started flattening out before the economy went to shit.

---

Not to mention that the Palin bump eroded as Palin's favorability ratings decreased.

I've nover the course of the past handful on months, I was really torn between who I was ultimately going to vote for. Though I found it difficult to believe it myself, that ambivalence was occuring within my noggin. Palin has solidified my choice and, once again I am in the Obama camp. This is moreso to prevent Palin from getting anywhere close to the White House than any othere issue.

Absolutely true. But there is no way in hell they would have voted for Obama. McCain may not have been their first choice but to them Obama isn't even a choice. They would have voted for McCain. No way would they allow Obama to take the White House by not voting.

**********

That's certainly true. But the social conservatives wouldn't have worked as hard on McCain's behalf as they have with a like-minded candidate on the ticket. It's not just about who votes for whom, it's also about energizing certain core constituencies to go out and work on your behalf.

Still, to use an old Al Gore line, "It's the economy, stupid." Not saying that McCain was going to win before the lending crisis - he was always neck-and-neck with Obama at best. But the economy is going to decide this election and McCain's chances are looking about as good as the Boston Red Sox.

Aw Bruce, now why did you have to bring sports into this?!? Going for the Red Sox comparison is just downright cruel.

With 2004 and 2007 as recent horrible memories of Red Sox comebacks -- let me change Bruce's otherwise valid analogy to McCain's chances are looking about as good as the Dodgers!

Sorry, Fred! But, hey, you've had two World Series wins in the past four years. Heck, as an Atlanta Braves fan, I'd gladly trade places with the Red Sox!

(And, yes, I'm still holding out a tiny sliver of hope that McCain can pull out a 2004 Red Sox vs. Yankees-style comeback. But I'm not holding my breath on that one.)

It was Hagerman's kicking my ass that lead me to go in-house!  Well, that and billing.  And getting to see my kids grow up.  But mostly it was Hagerman!
