One fair assessment of one party controlling both Legislative and Executive branches of the government is how the Republican Party has had control of both for the last eight years. They had unprecedented opportunity and carte blanche to finally shape this country the way they have wanted to for decades. If you look back at the last eight years and approve of what you see - then there ya go!

OK that's it, I am going to stop volunteering at my son's school because I keep missing people being pissed at me. LOL

Geoff thank you for seeing what I was trying to say and making it more clear. Not sure what it was, that was so offending. I understood everyone getting their panties in a bunch about my Obama over palin thing, I was trying to say it in a sing songie way because I had just watched a program about Jesse Jackson and  it was meant to be more of a joke, than a serious thing, that is why I ended it with LOL.

But I saw where it was unclear my intent on Palin's schooling, I meant it as she is all over the place, as a woman I find her insulting, if she was an ugly woman I believe she would not be where she is. Because she does not have the background to make her qualified to be a contender for the VP spot. You all can say it doesn't matter because she may never be in that number one spot, but history proves it other wise.

We had our budget for next year yesterday.

All the ministers (probably the equivalent of secretaries of state in the US) are taking a 10% paycut for next year and the president has announced that she will too. It seems likely that members of parliament will follow suit.

What do you guys think of Congress and the future President of the US following our politicians' example? It would show solidarity with American people going through tough times.

That's incredibly honorable, David, and something our politicians would NEVER do!

Pity someone couldn't put it in as a debate question tonight.

The Gov of California doesn't take pay, but that's a kind of special example.

I hadn't heard that, David, but kudos to the Irish officials for stepping up and doing the right thing.

Greg is right, though -- our politicians don't have that kind of character.

And I didn't realize that Arnold wasn't accepting a salary as California's governor. Yet another reason for me to like the guy!

I think you are missing the point Scott.  Put aside, for a moment, Jodi's initial comment that Palin belives that being gay can be prayed away.  Her follow up point is salient and you have not addressed it.

Geoff, I did address it when I said:

Questioning someone's judgment over their association with someone is a completely different animal than lying about what they said.  It's perfectly acceptable to quesiton judgment.  It's not perfectly acceptable to lie.

She is the one who never addressed my original issue.  She danced circles around it.  So, I'm not the one missing the point.  I addressed the point in very clear terms.

Me too. He's actually quite reasonable on a lot of issues.

But the social conservatives wouldn't have worked as hard on McCain's behalf as they have with a like-minded candidate on the ticket.

I got a bit of a laugh out of this because it's true.  They would have worked about as hard as the Clintons have worked for Obama.  :P
