What's your point Brian? What does that have to do with anything?

You're not familar with Republicans, Scott?
I'm turning the debates off - Obama blew this one. He'll still win the election, no problem, but he totally mishandled McCain tonight - McCain came out flailing wildly, tossing out all sorts of crazy lies, half-truths, bizarre mis-statements, and Obama let most of them stick. He needed to take a firm hand and lay down the law - stare that old lair down and set him straight.
Instead he just recited his campaign points.
Bad job, Obama. But I still support him 100% for President. His worst is better than McCain's best.

Exactly, Mike. Bush based his entire war campaign on lies. Can't get much worse than that.....and look what it's cost.

I'm not sure you're right. Obama supporters have been wanting him to be tougher since the conventions, but I think his cool, calm approach is what works best with the undecided voters. If he came on strong and confrontive, that would please hardcored Dems but it would turn the independents off. In this debate McCain has really looked on the edge of blowing up several times, and his demeanor towards Obama has suggested contempt. I don't think Obama needs to do anything to highlight that, he just needs to contrast it with his own calm and respectful demeanor. At this point anyone who's still undecided is probably going to be focusing more on presentation than content. Barring something unexpected in the final minutes, I predict the polls will show the undecideds again giving Obama a win for this debate.
This debate reminds me of watching Reagan versus Mondale. A charisma deficit is hard to overcome.

With the split screen tonight, I did notice on more than one occasion that Obama had a "You gotta be shitting me!" look on his face after one of McCain's statements.

Agree Mike.
Obama let a lot of opportunities slide. None moreso than when questioned about VPs. McCain's praise of palin was ripe for rebuttal especially when you consider that her history in Alask does not make her a candidate for reform and she has displayed a lack of knowledge on energy issues.
All of these debates have been 50:50 for me yet Obama has been perceived as the winner. Hopefully McCain's smarminess, persistent interruptions and general demeanor will lose him some points.

In the CNN poll Obama was the winner 58% to 31%. The CBS poll of uncommitted voters gives it to Obama 53% to 22%.

Obama's playing it safe. I wish he and his team would be more aggressive. It's time to put away the Republicans, or what's left of them, once and for all.

I think it was great the way Obama handled himself. That's exactly what we need in a President: calm and collected, not temperamental and isolationistic.

Jason I think you are completely right on the cool calm Obama, us party hard liners want to fight against the nastiness in kind and the first debate I was upset Obama didn't come out meaner, but the kid who is living with us is a firm independent and he has loved Obama's cool and calm. I have to say I feel like Obama didn't shy away from issues, he brought up the "terrorist" chants and "kill him" chants but he didn't get down in the mud, again he looked very Presidential.
McCain did better in this debate than the other 2, but he still looked bad at times, when he said he didn't agree with the negative tone his campaign has taken, he then went on to say exactly what Palin has been saying, he went negative. He had a perfect chance to come down hard on those idiots that yell vile stuff but he didn't, I think it was a big mistake.
edited to add : Greg you posted the same thing Jason did and I think you are right too.
