McCain looked pretty nuts, yet again.

good christ.

"Senator McCain, what about your energy policy?"

"Well i think it shows that Senator Obama is against drilling, and rasising taxes and is against free trade."

I think if McCain had actually stayed on topic while swinging wildly he wouldn't have looked like such an old crank. Frankly he reminded me of Grandpa Simpson.

And he keeps saying Sarah palin knows about autism better than most. Doesn't her kid have Down's Syndrome?

I thought Obama did particularly well tonight. He was much more eloquent in this debate--no hemming and hawing at all (so much so that McCain even pointed this out, trying to turn it into a negative!) McCain was pretty much throwing out every half-truth, mischaracterization and bold-faced lie he could think of, and Obama did not stoop to his level: he calmly reiterated his positions in a logical and straightfoward manner. George Will even compared it to Ali's "rope-a-dope" strategy of letting his opponent punch himself out so he could deliver the knockout blow at the end. McCain's eyerolling, lame jokes and hot temperedness likely didn't endear him to anyone either.

It's amazing to me that McCain's camp could use the "poor us" card and say point blank Obama trashes McCain and then spend the entire debate offering almost no substance and only lobbing scuds at Obama.  I loved Obama's comments on Palin's hate rallies, the mention how she whips people up into a frenzy where they're actually screaming out to KILL Obama, and then does nothing to diffuse it.  America can read, John, you came across as a hypocrite and an angry guy.

I love his remarks as well about how large government has grown the past 8 years - who's been in charge?  Who's voted for this increased government and ludicrous spending?  And when he constantly brings up the crappy presidency of Herbert Hoover, I wonder if he realizes Hoover was a Republican?

Just a terrible showing, and Obama sealed the election.  I enjoyed the constant bs about Joe the plumber, the sarcastic grimace McCain had on his face throughout the evening, his mention that Obama didn't understand the Columbian situation and Obama said point blank, "I actually understand it quite well," and went off on how he does.  The ridiculous comments on Obama being "pro abortion", as if anyone is pro abortion, and the high ground Obama took time after time, not even swatting at the softball of Palin's complete inability to run the country.  Terrific stuff!

Both political parties did.

I'm turning the debates off - Obama blew this one.  He'll still win the election, no problem, but he totally mishandled McCain tonight - McCain came out flailing wildly, tossing out all sorts of crazy lies, half-truths, bizarre mis-statements, and Obama let most of them stick.  He needed to take a firm hand and lay down the law - stare that old lair down and set him straight.

---

Totally disagree with you Mike. Obama responded to most of McCain's attacks without letting himself get dragged into a pissing match. I thought it was great. The only thing I thought Obama let slide was McCain's attack regarding his reversal on public financing. And while there were some half-truths mixed in McCain's statements, Obama did reverse his stance on public financing, so I don't think there was much to respond with there.

I liked that Obama took the high road.  McCain was goading him badly, looking for a fight, and Obama never gave it to him.  Although at first I thought this would hurt him, as the debate pressed on I realized that it was just making McCain look like a bully.

And for me... this debate WORE on.  Talking heads do not an exciting evening make.
